Old enough that things aren't "Retro", they're "from my youth ".
You have to pass from retro to vintage to get past that. 😉
Lover of most things vintage from cars to machinery and technology. And music.

horrible dawning realisation

AWW MAN !!!!

When my HDD died I lost a lot of stuff. Not least, the flipping Minecraft mod pack I was creating! All my custom mods, my scripts, my config changes, my custom data packs.

KAPUT !!

Also doesn't help I'd recorded about 6 hrs of "Let's Play" to demo the pack and had enough for about 4 to 5 30 min episodes after editing and I wasn't going to upload to YouTube "Until I'd ironed out a few pack issues"

dammit ! :(

@petelittle1970 Aww fuck.

Ever since switching to KDE my laptop makes a happy lil noise when I plug in the charger

Normally I hate my computer making noise I didn't ask it to, but I'll give it a pass on this.

WhyNotZoidberg,
@WhyNotZoidberg@topspicy.social avatar

@Len0w0ThinkBad KDE is awesome except that I don't like it (as I said the other day). But yeah it has so many nice little details 🙂

WhyNotZoidberg,
@WhyNotZoidberg@topspicy.social avatar

@Len0w0ThinkBad oh gods the Wayland thing.

WhyNotZoidberg,
@WhyNotZoidberg@topspicy.social avatar

@Len0w0ThinkBad I admire anyone who even gets ideas like that.

My creativity stretches as far as installing xfce terminal in Cinnamon (yes it is my favorite terminal, don't @ me) and then spend 1-5 hours creating a color scheme that matches my wallpaper perfectly but is still easy to use.

@Len0w0ThinkBad I though Plymouth are just Chevrolet these days? (Warning, dad humor car joke)

@Len0w0ThinkBad A 1.8 liter engine can be exceptionally powerful, just like at Mitsubishi EVO for example but yeah, if it's not a V8 in America it's a "small economy engine" 😋

WhyNotZoidberg,
@WhyNotZoidberg@topspicy.social avatar

@Len0w0ThinkBad over here the average engine is over 2 l, Sweden is wagon (estate) country after all

WhyNotZoidberg,

@Len0w0ThinkBad well they were solidly middle class here too. New ones at least.

This research shows that aptitude for learning foreign languages is a stronger predictor of learning to program than basic maths knowledge.

"These results provide a novel framework for understanding programming aptitude, suggesting that the importance of numeracy may be overestimated in modern programming education environments."

@yabellini As one of those ppl who has learned 8 or so programming languages over the years and then barely used them this seems very very logical. "Grammar" and syntax is what you need to learn, not math. And I would argue that has been the case for a very long time.

Do you see a series of sunken rectangles or 16 circles?

This is The Coffer Illusion.

Our brains are geared toward identifying objects & here, “pixels” are grouped to form edges & contours, shapes, & objects. The image is inherently ambiguous so there is no “right” grouping.

Rectangles dominate first for most people - including me, but keep staring & the image may flip to circles.

WhyNotZoidberg,
@WhyNotZoidberg@topspicy.social avatar

@Sheril Still rectangles.

Tho this particular optical puzzle is new to me, my brain immediately lock down on the 90 degree angles everywhere which kinda stops it from flipping to circles?

    I am once again getting the urge to install EndeavorOS but I... only use it to run firefox on it.

    Seriously, this is the biggest reason I stopped using Linux; I don't actually use it for anything but browsing the web since gaming just is so much more convinient on Windows and I'm not into Linux for ideological reasons (yet).

    I ALSO stopped because the number of bat shit racist libertarians on Linux forums I frequented were souring the experience. But that's another matter.
