Husband, Geek, GenX, Gamer...
Old enough that things aren't "Retro", they're "from my youth ".
You have to pass from retro to vintage to get past that. 😉

Going to the restroom for a trans woman can be so anxiety inducing. I know for me it can be anyway. All I wanna do is get in and get out without any issues, hassles or problems.

But I had something happen while I was at lunch with my mother in-law that was rather affirming as a woman. It’s the opposite of what I’ve imagined could happen to me going to the women’s restroom.

I was washing my hands when a woman about my age came out of the other stall. She looked at me, straight in the face and asked if I could zip up the back of her dress. She didn’t even wait for a response. She just turned around and pulled up her hair. Then said, “It’s so hard to do this by yourself. So much easier when you have help. Thanks.”

She didn’t see me as a predator. Didn’t see me as someone who shouldn’t be in there. She saw me as another woman who simply would understand the need to have help zipping up the back of her dress.

I almost started crying.

I, a trans girl, went into the women’s restroom and nothing happened, except for another woman asked for my help.

This research shows that aptitude for learning foreign languages is a stronger predictor of learning to program than basic maths knowledge.

"These results provide a novel framework for understanding programming aptitude, suggesting that the importance of numeracy may be overestimated in modern programming education environments."

What I get from the words “old-fashioned” and “newfangled” is that at some point in history we stopped fashioning things and started fangling them, and we as a culture never recovered.

The fact is, their content license requires attribution.

I’m a citizen of the EU and can require personal data (like my name) to be deleted.

Therefore they need to delete my content if I request it, because they can’t leave it up without attribution.

They’re not doing this and so not only are they assholes, they’re also criminals.

This argument is basically, “why bother with laws, they’re useless anyway, murders still happen”.

It’s so incredibly disingenuous and dishonest, I’d rather have them say nothing; because they’re just adding insult to injury here and make me want to utterly destroy their shit service.

The most ridiculous thing about US notions of decorum, is that people are expected to be silent when Black women are attacked.đŸ€·đŸżâ€â™‚ïž

If a Black woman is attacked and no one says anything, it's allowed to slide. But if a Black woman is attacked and people say anything in response, either calmly and politely like AOC did, or with an in-kind response like Crockett did, then all the "neutral" parties come pouring out of the woodwork, worried about "decorum."

Deeply unserious.

This latest from @pluralistic is yet another great peek behind the curtain.

"... this is exactly what the self-driving car bros did over the past decade to convince us all that the human driver was already obsolete. The playbook was nearly identical, right down to the shameless huckster insisting that 'full self-driving is one to two years away' every year for a decade ..."

Tories collect more tax from us than any Government has done since the Second World War.

Tories have also borrowed more money in 14 years than every Government combined has borrowed in history.

Yet Tories have cut services, funding & investment.

    So where's the money gone...

My head-on debate about AI with the prof went well yesterday. He could not give a straight answer to what the actual "huge benefits to humankind" were that he opened his case with. A bit like watching Rees-Mogg trying to extol the virtues of those brexit benefits that were just a bunch of snake oil. I don't think I won anyone over but I gave as good as I got and put a good case for imaginative creative artistic folk vs crappy automation that just steals from them while cooking the planet
