This would explain my sudden weird drop in proceeds since March or April.

@lapcatsoftware What should I look for exactly in the reports?

Given an existing app with a decent amount of unsubscribed users, what would be the best way to gate more features without annoying those existing ones? Although the existing users are the ones I want to pay…

aaron_pearce,
@aaron_pearce@mastodon.social avatar

@agiletortoise That is a valid way to look at it. It might annoy them but long term if they value the app and what it offers with those features, they'll pay.

aaron_pearce,
@aaron_pearce@mastodon.social avatar

@jonathanreed @agiletortoise yeah, I’ll be keeping my free trial that exists in this app (HomeRun for HomeKit). Just trying to convert the existing free users over due to giving too much away.

aaron_pearce,
@aaron_pearce@mastodon.social avatar

@agiletortoise @jonathanreed The legacy tracking is a real pain to do well is the issue. I may implement an discounted paywall if I can work out how to do it cleanly.

So the Matter 1.3 specification is out, yet no major platform supports 1.2 as of yet. Having Matter as an industry standard falls down fast if no platform actually supports it in a timely manner.

aaron_pearce,
@aaron_pearce@mastodon.social avatar

With WWDC just around the corner, it does beg the question, will Apple introduce support for 1.2 there? Or both 1.2 and 1.3? I'm betting on just 1.2.

aaron_pearce,
@aaron_pearce@mastodon.social avatar

Matter 1.3 was actually cut as a release based on a commit in March which is an interesting fact. https://github.com/project-chip/connectedhomeip/releases/tag/v1.3.0.0

aaron_pearce,
@aaron_pearce@mastodon.social avatar

@wimleers I think there is a private specification repo based on links shared in that one, and that is where a lot of discussions take place. Not fully open source in my opinion.

Started the Watch app for HomePass 2 this evening. The watchOS 10 design language is fun to play with.

Next screen started. Showing the setup code for easy scanning with your phone.

aaron_pearce,
@aaron_pearce@mastodon.social avatar

Shipping this out today into the beta. Makes for one more parity feature with v1 completed which is nice. Still have some additional ideas for the watch app long term.

aaron_pearce,
@aaron_pearce@mastodon.social avatar

Seven major and three minor tasks to go. Mac app, exporting, a few parity features and introducing the paywall fully.

aaron_pearce,
@aaron_pearce@mastodon.social avatar

@tonyarnold most likely yes honestly due to Catalyst which is nice. At this stage, it is mostly just fine tuning and fixing any Catalyst induced bugs.

aaron_pearce,
@aaron_pearce@mastodon.social avatar

@tonyarnold 😅 I am half expecting to hit a show stopper of a Catalyst bug in the end.

Trying to get Home automation to check the power state of a lamp and send a notification if it's on. "Get Desk Power State" outputs "Yes" when running the action through Shortcuts and testing the automation in the Home app but the action outputs "No" when the automation is run in the background at a time of day. Does anyone know why that is and know of a workaround?

aaron_pearce,
@aaron_pearce@mastodon.social avatar

@simonbs generally apps can’t access HomeKit data in the background so it could be that. When you read in the background, it returns the last value seen by a foregrounded app on the device.

aaron_pearce,
@aaron_pearce@mastodon.social avatar

@simonbs that sounds like Apple Home as usual. Unsure how this app/feature ships sometimes.

aaron_pearce,
@aaron_pearce@mastodon.social avatar

@simonbs of course. Sounds about right for the app. 😂

@viticci just saw the HomeKit hardware article on MacStories. Good read!

One note, the HomeKit API actually does support pan and tilt cameras officially. But manufacturers don’t support it as Apple Home doesn’t support it. And no third party supports it as no camera support it. 😂

See https://developer.apple.com/documentation/homekit/hmcamerasettingscontrol and all the tilt characteristics under it.

13 units at $7.99 equals $679,000 in proceeds after the 15% cut. I'm liking Apple's maths.

aaron_pearce,
@aaron_pearce@mastodon.social avatar

Well that's me. I'm out of the small business program.

aaron_pearce,
@aaron_pearce@mastodon.social avatar

@tonyarnold I’m guessing so. Seems to be affecting a lot of developers.

aaron_pearce,
@aaron_pearce@mastodon.social avatar

@tonyarnold that would be my preferred option.

I like the look of this chart in App Store Connect, but is there a chance Petty made almost AU$800k in the last couple of hours?

[Phil Gould voice] No no no no no!

@Mecid @zachsimone @JustMeDevin seems you’re buying one really nice yacht.
