I am about to become one of those crazy telephoto people

I like to go over the photos I've taken and carefully pick them one by one, perhaps saving an under/over exposed shot from its RAW version, and then take the JPGs of the ones I "approved" into my iCloud photo library.

But that takes time, and I don't want to keep piling them up on my SD Cards as they're not a good long term storage.

I do have a 2TB (RAID) NAS not currently being used, and that would fit about 70K raw images, so might as well just dump everything there every time.

I guess it's time to actually go over the photos I've taken in the past..?? month?? Jesus

I've been wanting a low f-number prime for my Nikon Z, but didn't wanna splurge the $1k+ lenses since I mostly enjoy shooting zoom, and have a 24-70mm ฦ’4 that mostly does the job.

Well I recently found that Nikon put out a cheap-o (plastic) 40mm ฦ’2 lens for the Z mount, and got curious. Reviews seemed good, and so I decided to give it a try.

I've decided SD Card designators are more confusing than USB versions.

Those huge HC/XC/UC designators? Mostly irrelevant if you're using modern devices. You should be looking at the tiny I/II/III roman numerals for speed ratings.

Plus the other designators (the circled number, and the number inside the U) are all the same in all my cards, despite their speed rating varying considerably.

I wanted to go to the Sea Life aquarium, so naturally I found a used camera store and bought a second-hand tele-macro lens!

Sad to find out the blue streetlights in Vancouver are actually the result of defects, meaning they are not intentional, and will eventually be replaced. I actually like them because they illuminate quite well while producing significantly less light pollution.

This weekend I got SimCity 4 to run with minimal issues on a Windows 11 for ARM (which means it is emulating the game's x86 code), in a Parallels VM, in my Mac Studio. No major issues, except modifier keys don't record properly, and I'm unsure if it's a Windows, x86 on ARM, Parallels, or macOS issue.

Ok, I spent the afternoon at the Bloedel Conservatory in Vancouver, which is a huge greenhouse full of exotic plants and birds, and naturally I took a billion photos. Get ready for the photo dumpโ€ฆ

Does anyone know what these little critters are? It looked like they were feeding off the sea wall algae/moss.

I used to say I liked most cities at night because they're quiet. And then I realized the reason they're quiet at night is because there's little to no car traffic. I still like cities at night, but now I know the real reason:

Cities aren't loud, cars are loud.

Bought a TC-14EII 1.4x teleconverter for my telephoto lens, and Nikon lists the AF-S 105mm ฦ’/2.8 macro lens as compatible but with "AF not possible", which made no sense since it's a very fast lens.

So I connected it to my Z6ii andโ€ฆ it worked fine! Fast AF too! Hmmโ€ฆ Maybe a recent firmware update fixed it?

So I tried on my 2006 F75 film camera andโ€ฆ it also worked!!

What the hell Nikonโ€ฆ
