One of my favourite @wikipedia hacks: Sometimes articles have only a single (often small) photo of that subject, but often Wikimedia has more. To find them: Click the image, click "More details" on the overlay, then scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and look for the image's tags. You'll often find it has a tag of that exact subject, and clicking it will reveal even more photos!

Last saturday while on a walk around a small lake here in Vancouver I observed this dark shape darting around. Then I realized it was a bat. It was skimming the surface of the lake eating all the bugs flying over its surface. It was late dusk and I only had my 300mm f/5.6 lens, but I wasn't gonna let that stop myself from trying. And in between hundreds of blurry photos, I got two less blurry ones. And you can see the bat!! And its reflection!!

Huge props to India's Chandrayaan-3 moon lander mission. Not only it operated to spec all the way through, but enough fuel remained in the orbiter that they were able to quickly patch its software to perform a return maneuver and send the craft back to Earth, an entirely unplanned addition to the mission. Space is hard, and they pulled it off like it's nothing.

this photo was taken just moments after the previous one. the angle is almost identical, but now the columns are mostly green, with some faint red, purple, and blue also visible
the sky seen straight upwards. the aurora seems to pour down from the heavens like a cosmic shower. it spirals in a great mix of green, purple, red, yellow, and white. some of the sight is blocked by trees, giving it an immense sense of scale
now looking towards the bay again, the aurora seems to emanate from the corner of the frame, spreading outwards in a fan. there's a bright red column in the middles, and many more columns of green around it. they all reflect off the water

Late evening photo walk around the Bayshore marina.
