Meanwhile in Ireland, you can get your first dose of the Covid vaccine at age 12 and, in just 68 years, you can get your first booster.

Because that’s cool and normal.

@aral Only last week I toured all the pharmacies in Bray with the following results:

  • We don't do covid vaccinations outside of flu season (lol).
  • If you're not 70+ or pregnant HSE says you can't get covid so you don't need vaccines.
  • There's a shortage of doses so no private vaccination. Because why would you order enough if you can get away with the bare minimum?

Yes, will demote WebApps to bookmarks on iOS 17.4 in the EU. Yes, they claim the EU is to blame. And no, that is not true IMHO. What is right is that under the DMA (Digital Market Access) rules WebApps could become a real escape route for Apps to avoid the Apple App Store tax. So better to close that possible loophole and blame the evil EU. IMHO. Reminds me a lot of the Cookie Banner stuff. Same story. Same blame game.

@jwildeboer it's always incredible to me how many people love defending a trillion dollar company when faced with things it doesn't want/like to change.

Sigh, another con announcement and no health policy.

You know when you're announcing the travel bursary deadlines,consider if some of those folks who might want to speak or attend and can't afford it may like, need to consider the healthcare side.

As in can't afford to get sick or more sick.

Especially when the conference for the same system on another continent does.

Real European solidarity there folks /s

cmsirbu,
@cmsirbu@chaos.social avatar

@onepict every single time I asked about it I got largely ignored. Their stance of "we'll do the bare minimum required by the local laws (which is typically nothing nowadays)" just feels terrible, so the advice of "do whatever feels safe for you" results in not engaging at all, not even virtually.

Wow, it looks like virginmedia.ie have completely broken their sign up process.

You select a package and when you hit checkout it says “Please Select Product First” (in an old-school alert of all things).

Capitalists failing at the basics of capitalism. smh

@aral might be worth talking to these guys https://www.blacknight.com/broadband/for-home/

They piggyback on a bunch of existing providers' last mile, I don't recall if VM was included. I know of them because they are selling services over https://siro.ie/ fibre.

Anyone know what happened yesterday evening in the European core?

Multiple paths transiting France/Germany had very poor performance. Looks to be fine today.

@tuxedocomputers What's the reason for still using the barrel connector for PSU and not going to USB-C? Nowadays that's a black mark when shopping for new laptops in my eyes.

@RichiH@chaos.social avatar

I recently had to use a 5 for a few days and it's amazing how much better the back fingerprint sensor works than the front-reader in the Pixel 7 Pro.

Here's to hoping for the Pixel 9...

cmsirbu,
@cmsirbu@chaos.social avatar

@RichiH I had one of the first under screen readers with the OnePlus 6T, it was so sluggish. The one on the pixel 7 now is so much better. But yeah they don't compare still with the dedicated side or back readers we had before this fad.

@aral @ayo @Shini92 I feel this at a deep level. It's too easy to get dragged into setting it up and then forgetting about it, which is what Google is betting we all do. It has lived rent free on my website for far too long, I'm somewhat ashamed to admit. Not for much longer.

@mairin I'm mulling over getting a MBP for the hardware, portability, battery life etc but have been warned by a friend the os is something special. Your toots have been entertaining. Been using with unity (I actually loved it) and for many years now, but my portable experience has never been great. On the desktop it's for life, but on the move I'd really reliable Bluetooth and suspend, which I don't get with my . At all.

cmsirbu,
@cmsirbu@chaos.social avatar

@aral @mairin NGL starlabs sounds great overall and I'd guess that since they can ship with so many distros, their hardware is supported well in the stable kernels. More investigation warranted, thank you!

Framework has a wonderful concept, I really hope their business model is sustainable and the builds endure. Saying "here's a new mobo for your existing chassis" is mind-blowing.
