New release of Mastodon for Apple II:

• Add image saving
• Cleanly check for authentication error
• Fix returning from image viewer
• Size optimisations

(Protocol did not change since v1.6.2, no proxy update required)

Edit: this is getting shared, but there was another shameful bug in this one, try 1.7.0 instead!

The famous Bad Apple video, playing on my Apple IIc. The data comes over serial. It's a work in progress, for example it's not real time.

Mastodon for Apple II release 1.7.1:

• Make instance URL prompt clearer
• Proxy: update to Debian 11 Bullseye
• Proxy: run unprivileged
• Proxy: enable telnet on loopback interface

This is the first release prompted by actual user feedback!

Upgrading the proxy is not mandatory, but good practice - it's never good to run something fetching data from the internet as root, and I had to fix that now that I'm not the only one to use it.

VICTORY over the hardware! I connected the #Quicktake 100 to my #apple2!
It was quite difficult as the Quicktake only starts talking once DTR goes down - which is just an ioctl() on a modern PC, but shutdowns the ACIA 6551 on the Apple II.
I built a monstruous cable with a mini-DIN8 on one side and... two DIN-5 on the other. One of them does Rx/Tx, the other DTR.
I use the modem port for Rx/Tx and the printer port for DTR.

I have removed #MastodonForApple2's image loading progress bar, because I don't need it anymore at that speed! Actual 4kB/s at 1MHz 🙂

Video showing image loading. The first step (text screen) is loading the JSON response from the Mastodon server. When the screen toggles to graphics mode, the "venetian blinds" effect is the image loading directly to video memory. It takes about 2 seconds per image.

New release of my #AppleII things!

STP, my FTP client, is now much more usable. It gets search, is ported to non-enhanced Apple II, and more importantly can now transfer floppy images (.po and .dsk) to a floppy, in the same way that ADTPro does.

This means that if you make yourself an STP floppy (with ADTPro), you won't have to unplug your Apple II from the Surl proxy and plug it to your ADTPro computer to transfer other disk images anymore!
