Today I learned that the Mastodon instance I’m posting from is subject to censorship, as soon you post something in regards to the Israeli hardline right wing government’s genocide in Gaza. Democracies can only be successful with educated and informed citizen. I’ll look into running my own instance to avoid future censorship. #mastodon #censorship #genocide #israel

People: Oh, this iPad Pro and keyboard are so heavy. It’s like a full laptop, so heavy.

Apple: Here is the new iPad Pro, which is thinner and lighter.

People: No, it will bend, it’s too thin, I’d rather have more battery and a bulkier device!

Apple: …

What if the mobile user flow would be:

  1. You form an intent
  2. You select the function that fulfils this intent
  3. You open the function and perform the function

Apple will reportedly update its entire Mac line to the M4 processor, beginning in late 2024 and concluding with the Mac Pro in the second half of 2025.

@appleinsider To be clear, AI didn’t make the processor, so it isn’t “AI-based”, it’s more likely to enable AI processes, which would make it an “AI integrating” processor.

The app (beta) for macOS feels like an alien. Settings are not accessible by menu, “cmd-n” does not open a new message window, messages aren’t in a window, but kind of an overlay covering the entire UI. I fail to see the advantage over the web app. @protonprivacy

Apple's abusive App Store policies led to the Commission passing the to protect fair competition.

Just like Apple has invented fake , it's now inventing fake compliance.

Here's how Apple's absurd plan is a🖕to democratically passed law:

@protonmail I understand as a company you may have opinions about other companies, but this disdain and hatred isn’t adding value to your brand or making your customers feel more secure. It’s reducing my trust in you. Because if you focus more on other companies’ behaviiour than your own strengths, I question your motives and your competence.

What Twitter was doing for news was important.

Now Facebook, with their Threads service, is poised to take that over, unopposed, no competition..

It’s still possible to avoid that, to create a new social media news hub that’s not controlled by a huge tech company.

core_,
@core_@mastodon.social avatar

@davew Not sure if Threads is such a threat to take over. With its market share limited to the U.S. and the world having turned to other services, how well Threads will be received (or used regularly) worldwide once it begins to roll out is to be seen. From what I can tell, the world is no longer interested in handing over all personal data to companies like Meta.

I deleted . They asked me to consent to handover all my private information to the company that is Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram.

This is a new level. I think they are trying to comply with new EU regulations that force them to ask users for permission.

But this would mean they can access all of what I’m doing on my phone. My photos, my activities, my contacts, even my voice they could record.

No.

I understand that is the new go-to app for microblogging. But does it work for you? It has never let me make any post at all. The error is always the same: “Post failed to upload”. My account is the same as on Instagram and I can see everything, just not make posts.

@joy I forgot that Mr. Zuckerberg doesn’t know what the Internet actually is, a global network. This kind of access restriction based on country borders is the kind of libertarian backward thinking that helps to maintain the status quo of entitlement and stifling true progress.

core_,
@core_@mastodon.social avatar

@joy By the way, using a VPN with a U.S. IP does not make a difference on , still not able to post. There must be more to it than regional restrictions.

A few minutes ago, a flight (maybe a pair) of powerful helicopters passed near the house at low altitude, shaking us vigorously. Sounded military, and they aren’t on FlightRadar24, so that’s my working assumption. Yesterday, I saw a pair of Blackhawks pass overhead on a similar flight path. And a few days ago, a loved one saw a flight of choppers they didn’t recognize; from their descriptions, likely a Chinook and two Blackhawks.

Is something happening I should know about?

core_,
@core_@mastodon.social avatar

@Meyerweb That’s usually the opening scene of a sci-fi film, shortly before scientists are flown to a secret site to talk to aliens.

What cloud back-up service do y'all like?

I use Time Machine right now, but there was a small house fire on my street (everyone is fine), and I started thinking, "You know, off site backup isn't a bad idea."

core_,
@core_@mastodon.social avatar

@grammargirl: pCloud does full backups too now. It’s already one of the best cloud services available. https://www.pcloud.com/backup
