There are few countries in the world about which, if you have nothing to do with that country, you can be pro or anti. I've never heard anyone saying they are "anti-France", "anti-Italy", "anti-Turkey" or anti-Pakistan".

You can be anti-American. Although you rarely hear people define themselves as "pro-American". In that case they are normally labelled "atlanticist". Which would suggest that the support or opposition isn't so much to do with the country's existence as to do with its global power.

And you can be pro-Israel or anti-Israel, in the latter case meaning you are against the mere existence of the world's only Jewish state. Nowadays, the country's enemies have tried to appropriate the term "Zionist", to suggest it is some kind of imperial lurgy. So now they are anti-Zionists. And they claim that by using that term to negate the existence of a people's homeland, they are not being antisemitic.

Everyone else is allowed to go on existing. Love them or loathe them.

Me: “Yes, I am.”
‘Chris’: “What sort of problems?”
Me: “A screaming sound.”
‘Chris’: “Erm…?”
Me, getting into my stride: “Yes, whenever I try to make a call there’s a screaming sound. I think my phone might be haunted. By a ghost, maybe a spectre, possibly a wraith…”
‘Chris’: “ ¿”
Me, flying now: “I took my phone to a priest and he confirmed that it’s definitely haunted. I think it’s by the spirit of the little girl who was killed in a bombing raid in the 1940s…”
‘Chris’: hangs up

@arratoon i did that with romance scammers on MySpace. my page was entirely about traditional musics from around the world so i had a lot of fun getting them to pretend to be interested. i got to talk about music i love and they had less time for scamming. win-win.
also learned A LOT about their patters, which has been very useful since

is all about this week - the physical copies of our favourite music. I'm going with this homemade compilation that was my introduction to the music of Chris Knox, which was sent to me by someone I met on Usenet back when I was in university. While I don't listen to the actual tape anymore, and I own all the albums that these songs come from, I do have this set up as a playlist and listen to it from time to time.

@sheepnik Was able to get two of my favourite opera productions on DVD. I listen to Il Trovatore more than watch it because the plot is a toxic mess but the music is one glorious duet after aria after trio after chorus after another with hardly any filler and these singers & conductor are magnificent with it.
The Barber staging is witty and full of small additional details, music is superb fireworks, and Rossina & Figaro are played as BFFs in shenanigans.

@sheepnik i think it involves hitting each other with them until someone's laughing too hard to continue and begs for mercy. this will damage the cardboard more than themselves which is why they would like spares.
but this is all hypothetical until mine arrive and they see them in person at which time they might have different plans. they're unlikely to make satisfactory paintbrushes though so that's probably out.

@sheepnik it's here. one of the boxes was in very good condition, delivery managed to tip over half the plants in the other. fortunately the one that was upside down is a creeping thyme and wasn't broken.
i think everything's alright but i did have to get plants and dirt back in pots for watering.
am going back out to play in the dirt soon.

There was a brief conversation about booping the hogs yesterday, but I felt it was a bit of a cheat to boop a nose you'd drawn yourself.

I should have left it there, but when I was sorting files I thought "maybe I could make it more difficult somehow, and therefore not a cheat".

So anyway, have a blindfolded double-boop because for a split-second that made sense to me, and that's all it needs sometimes.

I didn't report that first account but it's good to know an admin somewhere recognised their problematic behaviours.

@skinnylatte On setting minority communities against each other, it's also going on to set Blacks and Jews against each other. Not sure of timeline, I'm not in the U.S., but worse in the last decade?
i don't have the spoons to try to research parallels with what you mention. Comparison could be useful for better understanding of how this is happening, whether it finds mostly similarities or differences.

It's a clear sign of the antisemitism at the United Nations that they didn't blast this change out to every major news agency in the world.

@michael_martinez Another clue that the old numbers were wrong is that they add up to only 10k men dead, less than IDF's number of militants it has killed. Which of course doesn't include those killed by Hamas, PIJ rocket misfires etc.
(And if anyone passing by wants to come at me saying you don't trust IDF's numbers, ask yourself why you trust Hamas')
These proportions are at least plausible. The new blood libel narrative has been established though. Well done UN.

@LianaBrooks 🙂 If you have any problems navigating Thai PBS or their vipa streaming service, feel free to ask. I've gotten pretty good at bashing my way around it without being able to read Thai.
There are English subtitles but the button is labeled in Thai on some series. If you run into that, try the middle of the options.

@LianaBrooks I'm trying to think of something Thai that meets all of those criteria. The against all odds ones either aren't clear victories or have MC death. Love and support, everything I rec will have that, but for the rest all I can think of just now is Enigma, which I suggested to Hank above.
Smaller, personal victories though, like young people figuring themselves out, I have lots of those.
