I used to make websites. I wrote “Design for Community.” I designed the original Blogger. I created JPG Magazine, Fray, Kvetch, Cute-Fight, and more.

Now I grow flowers and turn them into CBD products for https://milkbarn.farm. I take care of 30-something chickens, 13 goats, 3 dogs, 2 cats, and my wife and myself in Boring, Oregon.

Nazis, TERFs, and Republicans can fuck off. Do not explain capitalism to me.

He/him.

@janeadams I prefer “if you find out you’re working for a white supremacist, quit, and do a little light sabotage on the way out.”

Whenever I pass by a Chik fil a in a progressive city with a gigantic line I think it’s kind of amazing a chicken sandwich can taste good enough that everyone’s cool with the homophobia they’re helping fund

@mathowie Same goes for In-N-Out, unfortunately.

Just came to this quote in “A People’s History of the United States” and thought it worth sharing — even though May Day is almost over.

“If the workers of the world want to win, all they have to do is recognize their own solidarity. They have nothing to do but fold their arms and the world will stop. The workers are more powerful with their hands in their pockets than all the property of the capitalists.”

— Joseph Ettor

@boogah seems like that’s why the capitalists are working so hard on AI. It sucks, but it has no arms to fold.

My friend Mike is giving away 100 copies of Design is a Job, which is required reading for anyone with “design” anywhere near their job title.

This is required reading. You're not gonna like it, but you need to read it. Let it sink into your bones. Know what we're up against. Use it as fuel. Fight like hell against it.

Time has also posted the full text of the interview, lest you think their summaries are biased. If anything, the full text makes him sound even more unhinged.

AND they published fact checks of his numerous false claims, because he lies with every breath.

If a Democrat lied this much, this often, the party would run them out. The fact that the GOP doesn't care shows how rotten the entire party is.

We have to make sure every Republican, from the top of the ticket to the bottom, loses in November.

Random unfollows seem to have struck my account, so if I was following you and recently stopped, let me know!

(So far I’ve refollowed @anildash and @fraying, both of whom I KNOW I didn’t [intentionally] unfollow.)

fraying,
@fraying@xoxo.zone avatar

@Meyerweb I can explain mine: I got tired of bad reply guys emanating from mastodon.social and blocked it for a while. It took out 25% of my followers but also removed a lot of problematic peeps. Sorry you got caught in that.

fraying,
@fraying@xoxo.zone avatar

@Meyerweb I think those are all great ideas. Mastodon needs a much more well-developed set of reply guidelines and tools in general.

If you've ever found yourself missing the "good old days" of the , what is it that you miss? (Interpret "it" broadly: specific websites? types of activities? feelings? etc.) And approximately when were those good old days?

No wrong answers — I'm working on an article and wanted to get some outside thoughts.

@molly0xfff Safety. It was safe to blog, to think out loud, to try and fail. That safety is gone now. Maybe it was an illusion all along.

yonabee, to random
@yonabee@eldritch.cafe avatar

it really doesn't matter what eugen thinks or does, mastodon is open source and we can take the ball, the whole field, all of the goalposts and the players, and go wherever we like

tbqh it's us who need to stop treating eugen like some tech CEO who must be deferred to, and .social as 'too big to defederate'

.social would be a pretty terrible social network all on its own, so it's actually us who give them legitimacy, and not the other way around

fraying,
@fraying@xoxo.zone avatar

@yonabee I blocked .social and it almost entirely solved my reply guy problem. That place is the kiddie pool of mastodon, not enough pool guards and water turning yellow.
