@isaackuo yeah. it's why i don't think their decision to stick with CP/M was necessarily the wrong one AT THE TIME.

Hindsight is 20/20

I think a lot of people don't realise just how TOTAL IBM's blitz of the business computing - and then home computing markets was.

The path to survivability for Vector was very small once IBM showed up, but they definitely shot themselves in the foot a couple of times to make their chances of survival even worse.

The standard cycle for any post-internet digital product is:

  • hyped to fuck
  • draws crazy investment
  • loses loads of cash
  • "monetisation will be easy!"/"economies of scale!"
  • data-tracking is added that proves otherwise
  • Most companies go bust

Was true for digital ads, Facebook video, podcasts, airBnB/Uber clones etc.

There's a point where data allows value to finally be calculated. Then the revenue-positive products turn out to be a tiny fraction of the market.

I maintain my belief that The Inspector in Death in Paradise is in fact a Timelord.

I look forward to seeing who the 5th Inspector is.

I hold firm in my belief it should be Lenny Henry, playing a Met Police detective of second gen Caribbean background, struggling to relate to his roots.

Of the many nuggets of oral history I've found digging into Vector Graphic and its founders, Lore Harp and Carole Ely, I think this is legit my favourite. From when they were running their memory board production out of Harp's spare room.

Just a quiet moment of lifting someone else up with them.

@johndecosta @twilliability Harp is a good example of that.

One of the earliest successful founders of a computer firm. Second woman to launch a firm on NSDAQ. Went on to be an important 'Angel' funder in the early days of the web.

Has exactly one para on Wikipedia. Mostly talked about in reference to her second husband.

Was trying some Sweden strategies in HOI4 last night.

It's possible to trigger the communist civil war AND win it after siding with the Navy and King, without locking out the royalist focus tree, by end of Jan 1938.

You just need to get your timing right on a few things.

It doesn't stop you doing things like marrying a commoner or disinheriting. but it means those are legit disruptive to the kingdom, as they should be.
