Signal does not provide any documentation for command line options.

So I made a brief compilation of known options.

https://retiolus.net/posts/signal-command-line-options/

indutny,
@indutny@fosstodon.org avatar

@retiolus I don't believe --prod/--watch are options, but the rest are available indeed.

  • --enable-gpu - to enable the GPU acceleration on Linux (which sometimes might lead to Chromium crashes, but could also improve performance)
  • --enable-dev-tools - to enable Dev Tools sidebar and a shortcut
  • --disable-ipv6 - likely not useful on Linux, but helpful for macOS users who struggle with the kernel bug for which Apple didn't yet release a fix
indutny,
@indutny@fosstodon.org avatar

@retiolus there is no --enable-ipv6 because it is enabled by default. Whether it is used or not would depend on the DNS resolver that the system uses and/or the network that the app is on (it has to support it).

indutny,
@indutny@fosstodon.org avatar

@retiolus I don't believe there is a log line that would confirm it so it might not be easy to check. With --disable-ipv6 - you can probably just monitor outgoing packets to see that it connects to IPv4 addresses of Signal instead of IPv6.

Level 13 of #wanikani !

I'm about to get my first burned items (radicals from Level 1), so technically I should be around the peak of number things that I need to keep in short term memory at the same time! With that in mind, I had what I think of as, a "restructuring" week. A lot of kanji/vocabulary has similar pronunciation so had to slow down to 10 new lessons per day and make a lot of mistakes, but all to get a more solid picture of kanjis!

Level 33 of #wanikani !

I can't believe that I finally learned the word “欲しい” 😅 Just kidding, of course I learned it along with N5 grammar long time ago! However, now I can confidently recognize the kanji, so thanks #wanikani!

Although, kanji and vocab is really important and this moment I feel like getting through with N3 grammar takes higher priority. For that purpose, I studied a bunch of new items this time around.

I also finished reading first 3 chapters of 魔女の宅急便 . How fun!

We are excited about React Compiler, aren't we? I just remembered that my first OSS library in JavaScript was a JS-to-JS compiler! Funny how things come around.

(The source code is hardly readable, even for me now... but feel free to try.)

@daishi Nicely done!

Long time ago I did almost the opposite thing, and implemented a transpiler that basically added support for "yield" which then wasn't yet a thing: https://github.com/indutny/spoon

Boosting because that person is still struggling and looking for work! If there is some onsite work in Portugal - they are also happy to do it!

My friend in the Portugal is still seeking employment, but now is unfortunately on the brink of having his family become homeless. They have been looking for work for few months now and have lost two contracts in a row that were supposed to keep them afloat.

It isn't easy time for anyone, but if you could donate even a bit to his gofundme campaign - it well help a lot:

Having quite a few test devices made me realize that anything with a built-in battery makes me incur a "battery-tax”: one has to track how much charge remains on each device, and keep them reasonably charged. The process takes mental effort, time, and physical space.

Lately, I decided to just keep most of these devices turned off to stave off the inevitable, and keep myself away from checking the battery levels. Perhaps, I should just donate the tech I don't use frequently…

indutny,
@indutny@fosstodon.org avatar

One could only wish for batteries that don't require slow leakage in order to stay healthy.

These toots are inspired by me finding out that my PlayDate is completely out of juice and now likely needs to be "on life support” for a few hours before it could start up again.

Just went in and unsubscribed from tons of YouTube channels. It’s funny how YouTube makes it trivial to subscribe to someone, but it took me a bit to find the page with all my subscriptions (3-4 clicks away).

The channel videos still appear in recommendations, but I guess they will go away eventually

Trying out learning the intro of the AAL - Micro-aggressions. I'm yet to find correct tone for this, and I think the right hand is supposed to be muting the lower strings, but it seems to be coming together?

One of the explanations for why horse meat is called 桜肉 (sakura meat) in 日本語 is:

“A codeword used in the Edo period, during parts of which meat was banned or considered taboo. 桜 (sakura, “cherry”) was used on its own to substitute the entire name 馬肉 (baniku), possibly later developing into the current form with 肉 (niku) attached. Pork was also referred to as 牡丹 (botan, “peony”) and deer as 紅葉 (momiji, “red leaves”), which appears to accord with this origin.”

Germany, famous for beer, football and trains today managed to screw them all up in one go: my train is dirty because it was so late bringing rowdy football fans to Berlin that it couldn’t be cleaned and restocked before returning (my trip). So now I have a dirty train, that’s late, and has no beer, because of football. The end is nigh.

indutny,
@indutny@fosstodon.org avatar

@janl I once caught a beer can that someone dropped and set rolling pretty fast through the train car. Whole train was cheering. Germany is truly beautiful.
