The end goal is to not require animals at any point in the process, but during the current R&D phase there are live donor animals for the cells, dead donor animals for the medium, and dead rats for the FDA approval. But of course, if lab-grown meat becomes readily available, many many animals will be saved

@petes_bread_eqn_xls there actually are times songs should be updated so their meanings don't change. "If I had a million dollars" should be remastered as "If I had 2.7 million dollars" due to literal inflation

My favorite example though is the line "that thought was just as bright as a 20-watt lightbulb" in "protect ya neck". Since the Advent of LEDs this line now means that it's actually an exceptionally bright idea

V8 Jeep > V6 Jeep apparently

In a 2003 version of the song I Hate This (M-Phatic Mix) the lyrics bemoan politicians selling their souls for “a V6 Jeep”. In a later version of the song, the lyrics bemoan politicians selling out for “a V8 Jeep”.

Why the change?

From what I can tell, the benefit is that it gives me the option for another face. If I want to be mildly unrecognizable, I can just grow out my facial hair.

But other than that, I have no idea why men grow beards.

Raw-milk fans plan to drink up as experts warn of high levels of H5N1 virus

Could we please not start another pandemic this soon after the previous one?

I'm totally fine with adults taking risks, but every case of H5N1 in humans is another opportunity for it to become as virulent as COVID did

@petes_bread_eqn_xls I've got my portable AC running behind me at the moment. Never felt like I needed AC in Seattle until the last few years. My first summer in my apartment when we had the mixture of smoke and heat it got up to 90 degrees inside which was miserable

@Legit_Spaghetti NASA actually has an organization dedicated towards avoiding contamination of other planets called the "Planetary Protection Center of Excellence" which I find quite funny

They also make sure that, if there were microbes on other planets, they wouldn't be able to contaminate Earth

@Slyence @ty04 can't speak for gen x myself, but as a late millenial I totally agree. I feel like I grew up in a narrow window during which computers had become essential but hadn't yet become user friendly

That said I grew up in a family of nerds so my perspective is going to be a bit skewed. It probably wasn't normal for me to be using Windows 3.1 as a kid haha

How do you know which comment triggers a Cares DM? Is it reported by someone or is there an automated system that decides I am in a crisis?

I can't tell if someone is mass reporting or if Reddit has some dumb AI that's just picking comments.

@LA9306 it's someone mass-reporting everything posted to the DT. They might use a script or bot for efficiency, but there is no automated systems made by the mods or admins that send these out
