    @idoubtit it always struck me as strange that so many institutions used Twitter as a semi-formal outlet. It was always an unstable platform run by techbros.

    @kevinrothrock Medvedev’s performance has been one of the sillier and more perplexing aspects of Russian politics for me. I can’t really make sense of it.

    Part of me thinks he’s setting up a post-war insanity defence!

    Dictator Ramzan Kadyrov's right-hand man, Adam Delimkhanov, appears to be alive after all. In a livestream today on Instagram (lol), the two goofed off on camera. A TV in the background apparently matches a show that aired live at the same time.

    @DreadShips I remember when the internet was all people algorithm, and yeah, it wasn't all that great if we're honest. But it was less manipulable.

    @phil @DreadShips I don’t have a great list. I tried to substitute Ukraine Twitter for mastodon last year, but basically gave up and started to use Reddit instead. Now Reddit has Twittered itself I’m giving it another go. I’ll share my list when I get back to my computer.

    @kevinrothrock @sdfStu absolutely, but it’s pretty obvious Twitter’s done, so people are probably going to move somewhere else. Realistically, that will probably mostly be Bluesky and Telegram, but both of them are their own brand of stupid. I hope Mastodon can catch a few with encouragement. I’m fine if it’s just the nerdier sorts.

    @kevinrothrock @sdfStu going off-topic here a bit, but Bluesky works on an open protocol, so there is some possibility of Mastodon-Bluesky interoperability at some point.

    I hate crossposting, and I don’t like people that do it and ignore some of their channels. I am an angry, small man.

    I almost ran Twitter's Bluesky project. Got very close. Had interviews with the then CEO (Jack Dorsey) and CTO (Parag Agrawal) at the time. Can you imagine?

    I guess it's not surprising. Overexcited nonbinary weirdo waving their arms so excitedly about what the future should be and telling everyone point-blank what they were doing wrong. Oh well.

    So hey. Maybe it's for the best. FWIW they suggested maybe Jay Graber (who did get it, and is great) and I should connect and see if we wanted to work together, and we did, but Jay and I agreed that Spritely was trying to be more ambitious than her vision and should be its own thing.

    At any rate, I was quiet about this for a long time but it's an interesting piece of history so... there you go.
