I’ve been reading a bunch of stuff on RPGs lately, and so I want to do a short thread where I discuss some of the recent stuff I’ve read. All the following have resonated with me in some way, and I recommend reading all of them. Strap in, roleplay fans! 1/

Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS cartridges use NAND flash for storage , not mask ROMs. Like all Flash memory, they "leak" charge over time and eventually lose data.

But, some users are reporting cartridges already dying, especially ones they haven't used for years. I wonder which of mine already don't work.

Just a reminder that you don't own any data you can't back up. Buying physical cartridges and game cards isn't enough if they're using technology that inevitably deteriorates over time.

My son bought me a mythos pack for the card game for Christmas, but I don't own that. I think he got confused bc of me checking out the Arkham Horror board game from the library.

So, instead of returning the pack to the game store, I used Targets BOGO 50% and just bought AHCG and the Forgotten Age campaign expansion.

This probably wasn't the smartest move financially, but I didn't want to disappoint the little guy!

@BGStatsApp Hello! I’ve found a couple of weird bugs lately I thought I’d report.

Firstly, some games’ images keep degrading to extremely few pictures and I have to refresh them from BGG.

Secondly, when importing plays from BoardGameArena, players who are not me do not get the “new player” flag even if they have never played the game before.

@BGStatsApp Ah, okay on the first front!

For instance, this is a screenshot of Hollywood 1947’s cover art in the app yesterday. I had not set a custom picture and it’s using the BoardGameGeek default, but I had to fiddle to get the app to redownload the crisp image from BoardGameGeek.

@BGStatsApp I think it changed over time; you can see that I did a 3x3 from the app at the end of October and that picture has a clear cover, and then when I went to do a 5x5 a couple of days ago it was super blurry.

@BGStatsApp Well, in this example, Hollywood 1947 was definitely clear at the end of October and definitely blurry a couple of days ago. It’s happened to other games, too. I can try to take a video next time I see it if that would be helpful?

Spooky month has started, and I am keeping to my tradition of partaking in some form of horror entertainment (show, movie, podcast, game) every day of the month.

Last night, I watched a somewhat creepy supernatural episode of Inside Number 9, and the first twenty minutes or so of Skinamarink, after which point I couldn't take its style anymore.

Tonight, we watched Cobweb, which was terrible but about halfway through I realized that it was terrible in a truly delightful way and so I liked it.

I won't have time to post anything today before work as I just ran into another hard drive issue.
Looks like the catalogue file of my main magazine drive has become corrupted and a doesn't mount anymore.
Can't repair it with the programs I've got that usually do work, but I'm able to get the data off of it with DrillDisk.
I also have 2 backups, so I ordered a new HDD and will start putting everything together again and manually check it all for losses.

Been looking into Game Boy games that I missed out on and damn, the prices are just insane!
Especially if you want more than a cart only copy with the label half rubbed off. 😱

I might have to finally consider and look into an ever drive as I’m not paying €500 for a copy of Elevator Action, no matter how much I love the game!

(And also since I’ve had a copy since the 90s. 😅
