I am "fell asleep on the couch waiting for my wife to come home from a concert" years old.

@danielpunkass I’m “didn’t even try to wait up for my wife coming home from a concert and went to bed at 9:30” years old.

A couple USB A ports on my Caldigit TS4 stopped working. Support asked me to power cycle the device, and that fixed the ports. I don't like that we live in a world where a hardware device needs to be rebooted so a USB port will work :(

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@tenderlove as the tech guy in my family, my standing order is to reboot the device before asking for my help. My wife rarely* does. So I reboot her device first when troubleshooting and it usually fixes it. I give it back and admonish her for not following my rule. “I didn’t think it was a reboot to fix it kind of problem.” She says. Rinse, repeat x 29 years.
And yet, she’s not wrong.

According to the poll I did, 60% of my followers have definitely had COVID, 40% don't think they have, and a few people who replied weren't sure.

I haven't, and I think this is a pretty surprising result. I'd expect my followers are heavily on the side of taking COVID seriously, wearing masks, and being fully vaccinated. The fact that roughly two thirds of them have gotten it anyway is kind of wild to me.

@collin we had to make hard choices. We ran a business that required interaction with the public not a restaurant, a hair salon. We wore masks and required masks. We both got COVID in Jan 2020 just before vaccines were available for our age group.
We took it seriously. Still got it.

This vacation has convinced me I need to remain on vacation the remainder of my life. 😃

@fahrni good to have goals. Crunch the numbers, see if you can make it work.

@fahrni same.
I get to 60% because I think full stack = front end dev who’s heard of ActiveRecord.
Don’t @ me full stack devs, I know there are many true full stackers, but I think my characterization applies to a significant chunk.

First night in our new home. Much to do. Plenty of time in the coming weeks. For now, sleep.

I’ve seen this take a lot. Why is that? I’ve found conversations out here to be so civil and I’ve had quite a few fun conversations with folks.

@fahrni me too! And I’ve found a few accounts that bring the funny:

@ElleGray

@GriffinGroup

Question for my programmer friends.

I’ve wanted to do a piece on my blog about how to go about removing singletons from your codebase. Not that it’s a bad pattern, it’s not, but it can get a little silly. Especially when two or more start to rely on each other.

Would y’all see that as overly simplistic? I think I’ll do it regardless, but thought I’d get some feedback. Thank you!

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@fahrni I’d be interested!

Mac Dock:

@timbray I’d prefer left, problem is I often (not always) have an external monitor. I’d prefer left when single monitor but bottom with external, I settle for bottom all the time.

@danielpunkass @rmondello @siracusa of course I don’t know John personally, but after listening to him and reading hist articles for over 15 years, I’m confident he would be a great teacher at any level from preschool to postdoc.

The MARTA app for iOS is an abomination. They claimed to have just overhauled it to work with Apple Pay. It does not. It’s like something out of 2004 where you add money separately in a very old web form and then scan a QR code to enter. Pathetic.

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@film_girl We were in London last fall. The ability to tap in / tap out with a contactless card or phone or wearable that supports contactless pay is a game changer, anyone not doing that is anti rider.

I need a reminders app that blows up my phone until I respond. Shakes, vibrates, pings, screams, rings-something obnoxious. Puts an overlay on my screen w/the reminder message in GIANT TEXT. Turns off the internet in my home. Kills all my open apps & launches the reminder instead!

@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@Sarahp have one for the Mac (I realize it’s not what you asked for) https://www.inyourface.app/
