Our daughter and son-in-law are moving. As they were cleaning out their shed they were greeted by a two foot long copperhead.

Our daughter moved a storage tote and there it was. It struck out and luckily it hit the tote.

She, her hubby, and children are all fine.

@fahrni whoa. Glad everyone is OK.

More of Kim’s roses. She’s had this one for a very long time. It’s moved from house to house through the years.

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@fahrni that’s some dedication, also very pretty.

Also, I’m sure it doesn’t really matter to anyone, and a person would have to be a monster to make a fuss, but when selling a house, do you list the rose bush as an excluded item?

It’s time to do some camping! Kim and I picked up a new to us camping trailer.

We have a list of places we’d like to visit. Now we just need to pick one and go!

Kim’s flowers are pretty darned happy. There are a few new flowers in the mix but the purple and yellow flowers and her mini roses have been around for years.

Just a test. Does my link shortener link expand here to the NY Times?

Yes, this link is safe. https://f67.us/1di

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@fahrni yes it works.
Curious about why you’re using it. Fedi counts all links, regardless of length, as 23 (something like that) characters. I think a lot of people, especially around the fediverse, prefer to know where the link will land.

Do you know, or one of your followers, or perhaps @marcoarment if I can install Tailscale on a Ubiquiti Router and get my whole house access to my Tailscale VPN? @tailscale @caseylisscom

Boy the Apple Private Relay thing continues to be a problem for Tapestry Kickstarter backers. Don’t worry though, we’ll get your reward delivery sorted. 👍

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@gedeonm maybe more designing and less Star Trek and car shopping?
Of course I kid. I’m here for all of it. And I want products designed by grounded, multifaceted people with a good balance in their lives.

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@gedeonm I’m so thrilled you think about these things and revisit / redesign as necessary. This attention to detail is what makes great software. Even if 98% of the users take it for granted, everyone benefits and some of us notice.

My husband needs cataract surgery. As he was asking me if I could pick him up on the planned date next month, I was perusing the local paper and reading an article about a doctor being sued for destroying a patient's eyesight from that same surgery. I forwarded the article to my husband and it turns out it's the same fucking doctor. Surgery is now off. He's looking for a new person and he'll do whatever I want all day long because I saved him.🤣 😎

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@StillIRise1963 close call.
I do whatever my wife wants every day because she saved me 29 years ago and many times since.

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@StillIRise1963 you may have even been the savee at some point. I don’t think my wife would have endured 29 years without some reciprocation. In fact, I’m quite certain.

Who are the biggest spammers in the world you ask?

Political campaigns. They’re relentless. You donate one time and every list in the world gets your number and they bug the ever loving crap out of you for donations multiple times a day.

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@fahrni I have mail rules set up for ngpvan and actblue but I can’t do a thing about the SMS spam. And it’s not just Dems although 98% is. I get occasional please from 45 and his buddies. FYI I’ve found “Fuck Off” to have the same effect as “STOP” with SMS

Anyone out there drive an Ioniq 5? I’m looking at it for my next car and need to gather opinions both good and bad. If you have thoughts you wanna share please let me know. Thx!

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@gedeonm I’ve done that enough that I’ve had practice sessions in the driveway and I still screw it up if it’s been a while since I’ve been to the car wash.
It’s more than non discoverable, it’s counter intuitive.

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@gedeonm also, I’m a model 3 owner (almost 6 years) and ionic 5 is in the running for a replacement, but not until they switch to NACS late this year. I had a Nissan Leaf before the Tesla, and non Tesla charging network sucked. It’s way better now, but still way behind Tesla’s charging network (which itself is way better than it was 6 years ago)

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@gedeonm probably enough, but the short cables at Tesla SCs make crying some cars tough even with an adapter- and I figure if they switch to NACS it’s just easier.
And as much as I hate TFGjr I can wait a bit longer. Also Lucid and Volvo have a crossover suvs due out late 24 and maybe VW might have something good? Even if those don’t end up being compelling, an NACS ionic 5 would not be settling.
(I own my 3 so no time pressure for me)

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@gedeonm weird similarities. I ended up extending my Leaf lease (which was super easy and reasonable) because I was on the waitlist for a 3 and needed transpo in the meantime. Pretty sure you don’t want to extend your Y lease even if you could, because 😡. But maybe you can be a 1 car family in the meantime and rent s/t when you need to.

Just for fun, how much would you expect to pay to hire an experienced independent graphic designer/illustrator for a day?

@andycarolan 8 hours? $600 on the low end

I'm curious how people score on the FM 100 Hue Test? I score a perfect 0, but I don't know how much of the norm that is: https://www.color-blind-test.com/images/huetest/Farnsworth100.html

(This is the limited online version, there is a full test available with the proper software.)

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@ned I got a 4 on my external 27” middle of the road monitor. Moved the window to my Macs Retina screen, turned the brightness up a bit, and got a 0.

jamesthomson, to random
@jamesthomson@mastodon.social avatar

Well this is fun! I finally got my Apple Vision Pro in Glasgow, but it turns out it's not actually my Apple Vision Pro.

It's in the right box, but it's a 256GB model, not a 512GB, and the serial number of the device doesn't match my order. I have to assume that the store in San Francisco mixed up devices when they were packing them. And somebody in SF got a free upgrade to a 512GB one.

I suspect they would say “just bring it back”, but that's kinda hard now that I'm 5,000 miles away. Fuck.

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@jamesthomson curious if Tim Apple will have to get involved?

What color is the ethernet cable plugged into your computer right now?

I'll start… Purple!

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@andycarolan same. Purple

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@andycarolan I’m not particular about colors, purple = ~14 feet. The last time I bought cables, I bought different colors for different lengths. When I need a cable I choose by color and always get the right length.
That was so long ago I can’t tell you if I saw it somewhere or had an original idea. It has served me well.
