@ivory I think bookmarks deserve another look by you, particularly on iPad & Mac where there’s more room, but even iPhone bookmarks could use some love.
I use the heck out of bookmarks (favs are for them, bookmarks for me) and I’d love to see a dedicated icon at the bottom of toots.

Also, I saw a boost of a toot I’d seen a while ago, which showed my previous fav. I went to bookmark it and it removed my previous bookmark - I shouldn’t be surprised by an action.

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@ivory thanks. Oodles of room for more glyphs on iPad and Mac, just sayin.

To clarify: I used a gesture to bookmark the toot because its bookmark state wasn’t visible. Since it was already bookmarked the gesture removed the bookmark. I did the gesture to put it back. Hard problem given phone screen size.

Me, I’d swap the settings glyph for a state displaying bookmarks glyph IF I could assign a gesture to settings.

Another idea short gesture to turn on bookmark and long gesture to turn off.

Other great things about 4.2...

You can now remove posts that you view in your lists from your Home feed! For any list that you do not want member posts in your home feed just go to that list's settings (slider bar icon at top right) and toggle "Hide these posts from home".

This is a great way to curate your home feed and find accounts you may have intended to put in a list, but didn't add to the list when you followed the account.

Reaching retirement age, and choosing to spend your new found free time driving the neighborhood to snitch on your neighbors to the HOA, because, I guess, "property values”, is a weird flex.

Maybe go volunteer at the library?

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@fahrni @agiletortoise we moved in June. Although ditching the HOA was not a motivatior, it was a nice bonus!

I own a 14 Pro Max and in no way need a new phone but all you people out there posting about your pre-orders are doing some serious damage to my resolve.

Thanks for that. 😜

@gedeonm tried to hold out last year, but my 10s max wasn’t making it through the day. Resolved to get a 14 pro max and trade in for first usb-c iPhone will full knowledge it might be the next year.
No regrets. 15 pro max, blue titanium, 256gb.

I just installed the watchOS 10 RC on my Ultra 1 and can confirm that the new Modular Ultra isn't limited to the new Ultra 2. Any Ultra seems to be able to use it.

Maybe @caseyliss has an update or options for your camera?

I know it's easier than building a website, but gee whiz, gang.

@jackbrewster my last city’s government would livestream city council meetings only on FB, despite my repeated notes that if was worth broadcasting to some citizens, it was worth broadcasting to all citizens.
I no longer live there, I’m still angry about it.

This is the most Mastodon-thing I’ve ever seen (h/t @rmondello who said it first). Literally every single Firefox user took this poll and no one else. https://mstdn.link/?to=https://mastodon.social/@isagalaev/111027776713051174

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@film_girl perhaps me with (checks profile) 149 followers, sees the obviously unrepresentative results, decides to boost the poll in order to get it to a larger sample is the most Mastodon-thing eve?

Any iOS widget people who can point me to articles / resources or just offer help directly?

I specifically want a widget that allows me to toggle the setting for “Silence Unknown Calls.”

If toggling is too hard, separate widgets to turn on and off.

I am not afraid to use AppleScript or whatever to accomplish this.

Boosts appreciated.

US Aircraft Carriers roaming about, acting like the next war isn't gonna see them sunk within hours by swarms of drones.

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@alisca I get what you’re saying and I’m certainly no expert, but I have a few questions about your observation:
What is the payload capacity and range of these drones?Seems like those numbers are inverse proportionally.
Seems like something capable of sinking or contributing to the sinking of a carrier would need a large payload which necessitates decent size which makes them detectable?

Def not trying to pick a fight or shit on your point, these are just a couple things I thought about.

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@alisca I get it. And I’m sure it’s a real threat that has to be accounted for.
The underlying question, what good is an aircraft carrier in present day or future warfare is a great one.

Ugh!

I sang "1135809" to the tune of "867-5309" making a silly joke an hour ago, and just now realized that I still remember the number. I've accidentally memorized his prisoner number! And now you have too*. Sorry!

The human brain works in weird ways.

(*Your only hope is if you don't sing it. Sing it even once and you're doomed! We still know Mike Jones' Sprint mobile number.)

jswright61,

@mekkaokereke how can people of a certain age forget Jenny’s number?
FYI it has a 99% hit rate at any retail store to look up a loyalty program number with any local area code.

@ivory I love the alt button when viewing media full screen that has an alt description, and of course Talbots handled multiple media files attached to a toot perfectly.

My feature request: give me a setting to automatically show alt descriptions by default when viewing media.

Thank you!

I really hate setting up new computers with the heat of 1000 suns. It is the worst experience ever. This is exactly why I’ve delayed setting up my brand new M2 MacBook. My x86 MacBook works.

jswright61,
@jswright61@ruby.social avatar

@bigzaphod @fahrni big fan of migration assistant as well. My upgrade from an Intel Mac to an M2 Mac went great 6 weeks ago.
If you use HomeBrew I would look for a migration guide /tutorial. Or wipe it and start over - the binaries are almost all different.
I didn’t do either at first but ended up basically wiping the old one and installing what I needed.
