I finally finished reading Bad Habit by @velvetmolotov which comes out in English this May

My wife picked it up in Spain the other month, and read it on the plane back home, crying the entire time

It took me longer to read it, because I kept having to put it down, because it made me cry every couple of chapters

It's one of the best novels of the new wave of trans literature, on the level of Detransition, Baby or Bad Girls, and probably the best novel of the closet. You're a fool if you miss it

I keep thinking about "The Zone of Interest". It is the best Holocaust movie ever made. It is how it really was-- no one talking about it. Normal people-- not monsters. Cognitive dissonances noticed and silently struggled with. A lot of it is eerily relevant today. I think everyone should watch it.

The Oscars are important. Because Zone of Interest won an award, they put it back in theaters and I finally saw it. It was a very good film, probably the best film on the Holocaust I've seen

The thing about separating the work from the author is that it's a social process, not an individual one. You can cite Heidegger nowadays without it being an endorsement of Nazism because the philosophy world spent literally decades discussing how fucked up Heidegger was. If you go to a Graveland or Peste Noire concert, though, because you personally feel you have separated the work from the author, you are just endorsing Nazism because the guy standing next to you is definitely a Nazi

That the world of academic feminism is so intent on silencing any criticism of Marcela Lagarde is because they don't want us to be able to separate El cautiverio de las mujeres from her appearances at conferences where people call for the elimination of trans people, because they want the prestige of the former to endorse the latter

Finally finished A Short History of Trans Misogyny. It's not all terrible, but I find it deeply problematic that not a single person has commented on the fact that she (rightly) criticizes the idealization and romanticization of the "Black trans woman" as a fetish representing "good politics" and then LITERALLY PAGES LATER DOES THE SAME THING TO TRAVESTIS

Like did no editor comment on that? No reader? Nobody could tell what she was doing there? What an awful, orientalist book

I don’t know who spread the rumor in the west that rice cookers are simply ‘unnecessary single use gadgets for foodies who eat a lot of rice’, I think of them more as ‘versatile device for depressed people with no (emotional, not literal) spoons’

Put rice (don’t even need to wash it), water, place vegetables, meat, tofu, eggs. Add soy sauce. Close the lid. Walk away.

And if you get a nice one: cook rice and eat off the cooker even 3 days later.

Even the cheap ones are so handy.

IDK who needs to read this but investments in contemporary art have had higher returns than the S&P 500 for decades. Art > the stock market from a moneymaking POV.

Being a studio/wedding musician has secretly always been a more reliable career than sports… or science.

I accurately predicted many of the major problems in my adult life due to studying liberal arts when I was a teenager.

So. It is increasingly hilarious to me hearing all of these STEMlords hate on the arts 🤣
