“Malnutrition is the real monster here,” lol, “Delicious in Dungeon” is adorable and a weird love letter to the Monster Manual.

Grumble. FedEx told me my loom (#weaving) was coming tomorrow.

Came home to a note on my door today that something wasn’t delivered, with literally no other info.

Don't even get me started on that new Bumble ad.

@DeliaChristina Wowza. The difference between those two is … impressive.

jonobie,
@jonobie@social.coop avatar

@DeliaChristina Well, and I’m old and haven’t used dating apps basically ever, but I thought Bumble’s whole thing was trying to pretend it was for women, by women…?? That seems like an especially big miss.

I can't figure out if mastodon is a high context culture or not. People seem to be expected to give long introductions and do a lot of identity/positionality disclosure, but also an enormous reply guy culture which is defined by low context drive-by. Conversational turn-taking is extremely low compared to other platforms ime, but depth-seeking is high. What an interesting mix.

*obviously, these experiences are all situated within my own network effects, and I'm not well networked here.

jonobie,
@jonobie@social.coop avatar

@grimalkina I’ve noticed it’s odd too (though I find I like it), and I resonate a lot with what @hazelweakly said, esp with the poor threading. (I always feel like I’m losing some of a convo - and I can’t set up a thread to notify me when it gets an update - all making it hard to follow at times.)

I’ve also wondered whether high levels of neurodivergence here affects anything, or if that’s just my feed. Thoughts?

I just realized that when I broke a toe recently, the partner with me basically had no idea. Mostly because I didn’t make any noise, despite it hurting a fuckton. Because … I didn’t want to interrupt our watching of Survivor. 🙄 I guess I thought if people were voluntarily starving themselves for our amusement, I could totally avoid whining about toe pain?

Anyway, the point is, human brains are weird and human toes are stupidly fragile.

For some reason, thinking this afternoon about how my senior math teacher let me sit on a side lab counter in his room, literally over my best friend at the time so I could see her notes and copy them. I couldn’t see well at the time, and the teacher was basically like, “Not for tests, but otherwise do what works for you.”

I don’t remember his name but man, I wish all high school teachers were as accommodating.

Wowza. Booking a Lyft right now to downtown shows $75. Yellow Cab App shows $30-40. Am gonna give the new app a whirl and cross my fingers that the fare isn't ridiculous with a meter. (One thing I don't love about cabs.)

Last time I took a cab from the airport, it was fully $20 less than the same trip had been a week earlier with Lyft. The rideshare apps are seeming like no longer such a good deal...

jonobie,
@jonobie@social.coop avatar

@BillySmith As long as I don’t end up with a dead worm in my brain! 🤣😂

jonobie,
@jonobie@social.coop avatar

So Yellow Cab App for was around $50 to Lyft’s $75.

👎🏻No way to rate driver or give feedback other than calling an actual phone number.

👎🏻No exact quote, so you’re on a meter.

👍🏻Fleet is not Teslas with doors that won’t open if there’s a crash.

👍🏻Clean car, fine driver, if sliiightly chattier than I wanted.

👍🏻Prebook time had them showing up on the dot. Didn’t try an instant hail.

👍🏻Much cheaper!

I’d try them again.

jonobie,
@jonobie@social.coop avatar

@invno1 Yes, absolutely. I remember when cabs could not be summoned via app!

Oh, this is fun. In organizing my files, I found a logo I created FIFTEEN years ago - my very first foray into vector art. I had no idea what I was doing, so it was sort of half vector and half... not. I'd literally painted in fill where printing hadn't worked the way I expected. I spent a bit cleaning up lines to make it more reusable. Still might play with the colors some, but it's fun to see the before (left) and after (right). I made the card's arms more buff. :)

jonobie, (edited )
@jonobie@social.coop avatar

Even funnier is the very first draft of it still exists! I showed it to a friend trying to figure out what was wrong, and she was like... "well, he's kind of a pinhead" 🤣. I had based the bottom off Alice and Wonderland art in the public domain, but wanted a plainer head. I later realized something based on a playing card Jack head probably would look better, and that's how I got to the second version.

jonobie,
@jonobie@social.coop avatar

The logo was based on a Bridge convention (the 7 of diamonds is the "beer card"), and so is holding a beer.

It's also holding a crossword puzzle in the other hand (though the black squares are wrong, there are unchecked letters, and that drives me vaguely bananas). That's because it was the name we used for puzzle events - some of which involved, weirdly, running.

Frustrated rant: Sure, random patch making place that let me enter a coupon, erased it because I missed a required field, and now is insisting I share the email address it was tied to. (It was shared by a friend and was the only reason I initially ordered.) You can extract that extra $40 from me right now. I will actively anti recommend you in the future.

I decided it was kind of rude to cut off discovery park so I widened the workspace to put it back on

and that also gave me the space to add back the west seattle bridge detail so I did that too

and a little cleanup why not

anyway it's 722x656mm or roughly 28.5"x26" now at intended print resolution (300 dpi because that's a standard here)

I really think and hope I'm done with this version, now that I know this thing has legs I'm kinda like "whelp now time to do it over again with proper tools" so that maintenance will be easier and alignment won't be such a bear and a half

@KnittingMittens Oh, that's awesome. I'm so psyched - it's WAY bigger than my 10" SampleIt. Which I like, but ...really isn't wide enough for anything bigger than a scarf. Or maybe a dishcloth.

Wonderful and VERY WET day at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival yesterday. So very wet! Came home with one Romney fleece and enough Cotswald and silk roving to make a sweater.

I love this festival - it's such of mix of people, but honestly I was surprised to see nuns! Also lots of men in kilts (accompanied by a discouraging number of long, yellowish gray beards braided with beads on the end).

@fibrearts @knitting @spinning

Looking down the main drag of the fair grounds. The sky is dark, it's raining, and most people are in raincoats and umbrellas.
Three covered sheep in a pen. The one in front is brown faced, the two in back are white sheep. Straw covered the ground and there is a blue plastic pail with water in it.
Four sheep eating hay from a black container in a pen. Straw covers the ground. Three of the sheep are black sheep, and one is brown.
