In case you missed it, major corporations are major contributors to inflation, because they can raise prices with impunity.

Our rejection of anti-trust law has led directly to record profits (just because we can, say CEOs). Can we rekindle the spark?

Although CNN has dubbed it "meddling" (poor choice), Russian bribery of European leaders is a criminal act.

Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee: “We see directly coming from Russia attempts to mask communications that are anti-Ukraine and pro-Russia messages, some of which we even hear being uttered on the House floor.”

When will the US DOJ conduct an investigation like those in the Czech Repubic and Belgium?

Which of these is not like the other?

Ohio and Alabama secretaries of state give the phrase "politically motivated" new meaning in their threats to keep Biden off the ballot because the DNC is too late.

Look at 2004 ... 2008 ... 2012 ...2020 ... Gasp! No Dem SoS threatened to keep Republicans off the ballot.

WTH, @pluralistic !

Didn’t you write Beezle early(ish) in the pandemic? You saw the enshittification that is the SPAC even then?

Oh. Right. Trump’s SPAC adventures started publicly in October 2021. Damn. (I’ll read what he’s reading.)

I marvel at your ability to turn what would otherwise be just another history lesson into an engaging story.

My FiL is a retired accountant. I told him he needed to read the first book, first. I was wrong! (I didn’t anticipate the younger Marty would do coke, though.)

So …. That bit ⬆️ about not having to meet the same (disclosure?) requirements as an IPO?

@pluralistic called it.

Trump Media (DJT) shares have plummeted, cutting market cap in half in two weeks. Reminder DJT was the sticker for his now defunct casino biz.

Also, in retrospect Friedman appears to have absorbed WWII-era German rhetoric.

I’ve said it many times before: those Confederate leaders lost the battle not the war. The war, they are clearly winning.

Corporations should not be structured like nested Russian dolls. They should not be able to buy other corporations and vertically or horizontally “integrate.” That’s an airbrushed description of outsized market power. And reduced taxes.

I knew Cory had been an editor at Boing Boing and worked with EFF.

Funny, I’ve always thought of him as a sociologist steeped in technology (specifically, IT). Economics is, at its roots, sociological philosophy.

Economics started as philosophy.

Academics wanted to be thought of as “hard” science so they added mathematics and statistics. (BTDT)

The projections usually have a MoE that is laughable, particularly macro economics. The integration of psychology is overdue: “rational man” doesn’t exist. Can you tell I’ve thrown in the towel on my graduate work?

A @pluralistic historical reference from Sen John Sherman (R-OH, William Tecumseh’s younger brother), in 1890.

Sherman articulates the need for federal anti-trust legislation (“the first federal law targeting monopolies and anti-competitive behavior”) at a time when the learned understood this was the foundation for Adam Smith’s economic philosophy. Unlike today’s rhetoric.

Sen Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is the closest in philosophy today, I think.

I blame Milton Friedman and the Chicago School but Reagan was the enabler.

I learned about market power in my graduate program but outmr focus was natural resources and agriculture: one treated as a commons and the other with a powerless set of suppliers (farmers) except in few cooperatives.

From the “you can’t make this stuff up” and “things the Washington DC political press corps ignore” departments … Trump accused Biden of using cocaine and cheating in golf in Hugh Hewitt interview.

Voters who aren’t MAGA cult members need to come face-to-words. That’s only happening in independent reporting.

I’ve said for years, like a broken record stuck on repeat, that no Hollywood studio would green light a screenplay that featured Trump’s transcripts.
