Co-signed. Note to women programmers: We are also in danger of assuming women’s code isn’t as good as code written by men, whether it be our own code or code written by other women. Internalized misogyny is easier to recognize than it is to get rid of.

@tomkindlon @longcovid if they tried HIIT and didn't notice any symptom exacerbation, they're working with a sample of patients without actual PEM. There is no way.

As the Supreme Court meets to hand down a major abortion decision, it’s worth asking other clueless middle aged dudes like me: Did you all know how the morning after pill works now? I got a vasectomy ten years ago so apologies, but I’ve been completely out of the loop on cutting edge birth control but I had no idea until a few months ago that the morning after pill isn’t the only option and not only a “morning after” thing.

@mathowie with the greatest of hesitation, I dip my toe into reply-guy territory to clarify for anyone stopping by that the morning-after pill (Plan B/Ella, basically higher doses of regular birth control) really is only for the 1-5 days after, and is legal nationwide. If it fails, or if you wait any longer, you need a different drug/combo of drugs (mifepristone/misoprostol), and they’re the ones being fought over. https://www.plannedparenthood.org/blog/is-mifepristone-the-same-as-the-morning-after-pill

There's lots of noise in SF about homeless people "refusing shelter" and "They want to live in tents!" And that we should force them to accept the shelter against their own will, "for their own good!" Many SF folks rationalize their desire to not see homeless people, by convincing ourselves that refusing shelter is an irrational behaviour, and that we know better.

We don't consider the fact that people might be refusing shelter when that shelter is worse than a tent.

I just found an error in the dictionary. I am going to have to write an email to the freaking Oxford University Press and tell them there is an error in the Oxford Dictionary of English. It's just a mistake in which sense of a word is UK vs. non-UK usage, not a misspelling or anything like that. And it's not the 20-volume authoritative Oxford English Dictionary, just the everyday dictionary published by the same press. But still. I am shook.

@chx I had a similar experience, where something was really bugging me, and I thought it was Mastodon, until I disabled Graze for some unrelated reason and suddenly everything was fine.

ARG. git can autopack the repo IN THE BACKGROUND after a git-fetch, so you can have code that does the quite reasonable steps of:
$ git fetch
$ tar -cf ../blah.tar .

and it'll fail, because tar will notice that all the files are moving around because git is actually still rewriting the files
