Our voice phone systems are seamlessly federated. You can call people across carriers, over national boundaries, instantaneously, and the only friction is slightly more numbers to dial.
@evan it really sucks actually. I just moved to Berlin and I can't keep my phone number to tie it to any provider here cause the routes are country specific. So to make an analogy to the fediverse it's like only being able to move to a new account INSIDE an instance or maybe only between mastodon and not between mastodon and WordPress etc
@evan I now have a Berlin number. I can't text or call US numbers cause the plan I have doesn't allow it. I would have to pay 2 times as much if I wanted to text message a US number

Hey, Mastodon … I’m trying to track down an #AppleNewton developer named Stephen A. Cronin.
He worked at #AMD and operated a software company called TapTech based out of Austin, Texas in the late 90s. I’ve managed to contact his former software partner, Francis Preve … but Francis lost touch with Stephen years ago.
Together they released a sequencer program for #NewtonOS called NR404 and I’m hoping the source code still exists somewhere.

@splorp@NR404Guy the battery was left inside for years and years and exploded goo all over so the screen is also destroyed. I wanted to try complete disassembly at some point and see what I can salvage
Musk & Trump's ties are deepening. They've discussed a possible advisor role for Musk should Trump win the pres. election. Musk & N Peltz have briefed Trump on a data-driven voter fraud project & anti-Biden efforts.
They discussed ways to give Musk formal input & influence over policies related to border security & the economy (Musk has no expertise in...), both issues on which Musk has grown more vocal.
Ugh, here was a weird tank of a computer, a Gridcase 1535 EXP, with plasma display (that did not look all that much better than this awful photo). It was unpleasant to use. No idea what I did with it, probably gave it away.
