@phil_stevens Well, he's human, so it's OK. If an AI were to take over a major communications channel and flood it with right-wing propaganda and conspiracy theories while suppressing opposing views and claiming to be a "free-speech absolutist" folks would be screaming to pull the plug.

our whole dang new intranet goes live tomorrow. I've done a lot of work on it and I'm not looking forward to the deluge of complaints about it. The organisation is just Not Kind and people seem to jump at any opportunity to tear someone else down 😭.

@rai Sorry to hear that--sounds like a really toxic environment. Unfortunately, there are many folks out there who can't find the time to help you get things right (e.g., by telling you want they want ahead of time), but have no end of time to find fault later.

You can only ever do so much with the resources and guidance (or lack thereof) you're given. Remind yourself you've done a good job, and don't let the naysayers get to you (easier said than done, I know!).

@snott @edendestroyer Same protocol, but would I need an account on a different server? With email, I can use different email clients with the same account, all talking IMAP. I can play with different email clients without changing my address, so no one I communicate with has to do anything differently to keep in touch. How would this experience compare if I were to experiment with (or other projects), or use a client on my phone and a client elsewhere?

One of our volunteers has been listening to Gates McFadden’s podcast, and in her second episode with Nana Visitor, the latter explains the existence of “herd queens”. First, her quote, then we talk queens.

“I learned about goats, I wanted to have goats, so I studied goats and one of the most interesting things about them is that they have a queen. If you want to get your herd to do something, you go to the queen and have her do it, and she will make everybody else follow.”

oh work is Very Bad now. manager apparently is openly talking about how I need to "learn my place" in other teams' meetings so that's cool and fun and not at all terrifying. So glad to have joined this workplace :)

hr is getting involved but I know they're there to protect the company, not me. but, lots of people have lodged complaints about this one manager now. so maybe something will come of it. either way, actively looking at jobs again. fuck. I just want to be moss.
