The unfortunate thing about the downfall of corporate was that was actually pretty good. By the time it finally arrived companies didn't want to migrate.

Amazing recap of evaluation frameworks and methods by the Microsoft data science team on Medium
I don't see RAGAS though

@ErikJonker @alexisperrier Why do people publish on Medium when they can publish without walls on Github? Do they not know about Github?

I've been thinking about program understanding, and about how to encourage to do compositional/verifiable on program text ("statically").

This is my latest work around this: https://aclanthology.org/2023.findings-emnlp.601/

If, as some recent literature suggest, transformer-based LMs are not more expressive than regexps, this line of thinking is doomed, but at least it could be a valuable heuristic and complementary to rigorous .

@ocramz Could you point to a reference for the regexp expressiveness claims? Thanks.

Glad Google's BS video idiocy has hit the mainstream press. Shame on google. The hype is bad enough without bald face fakery.

@cigitalgem Holy moly. I wonder if this qualifies as actual fraud.

The SARS-CoV-2 HV.1 variant is now the one showing most growth advantage in the US (New CDC data today). It is close to XBB.1.5, the target of the new booster; the graphic below shows differences for a few spike mutations.

Get boosted to stay protected against these variants.

@erictopol Will do once they are available. Canada lags behind by at least a month.

Found a nice talk on concurrency. It has a very brief comparison of different concurrency models, like Erlang's Actors, Hoare's CSP, Go's goroutines, Clojure's core.async, Concurrent ML (aka Fibers in Guile).

Primary focus on Concurrent ML (but examples are in Scheme with type annotations ><).

@abcdw Actors and CSP cover the first four of those. Not sure about ML.

I don't think we needed a formal study to prove this 😉

Blaise Pascal, the philosopher born just over 400 years ago, made what is know as "Pascal's Wager" about the existence of .

He argued for betting on the existence of God. “If you win, you win everything; if you lose, you lose nothing,” he wrote, positing that although one cannot know for certain whether or not God exists, we are better off believing in God’s existence than not.

His is all of life is a wager.

And would you take his wager?

Losing, one lies down in pain.
