Neither of these teams knows how to close a game but Boston has been terrible at it longer so they have experience on their side. If they employed a head coach that might help #nba

@caravan oh it's very entertaining! I'm having fun. Tbqh I'm testing the Boston fans on the hashtag to see if any of the dimwits have showed up yet

Billy Strings learned an important lesson tonight. They had a bit more time for set 1 and he asked the audience if they wanted to hear anything special. He noticed a little girl in the front row and asked her what she wanted their all strings bluegrass band to do. Her answer: Cher’s “Believe”.

mrcompletely,
@mrcompletely@heads.social avatar

@frykitty @bsletten Billy will 100% deliver on this. First, because he promised and he is a young gentleman. Second, because it will rip. Third, and most importantly, because it will be fucking hilarious

@wobs now that's a good book! Gibbon is useless from a modern perspective, while Ursula gains force and depth over time. With a clearer perspective of age I now believe she's the single most important SF writer in the history of the genre.

Fwiw, anyone freaking out about the insane/idiotic/abuse enabling upcoming windows "feature" aka OS level spyware on an immediate/practical basis should realize you'd have to buy one of the new "copilot plus" line of machines to even have the hardware to run the stupid thing. It's not about to be enabled on whatever you're using now. Yes, there are lots of reasons to be mad at MS over this, all those things are valid, I don't wish to debate how bad this is (it's very bad), just a point of fact.

BigJackBrass, to RPG
@BigJackBrass@vivaldi.net avatar

Currently reading this history of the music hall, the British counterpart of vaudeville and precursor to variety. My favourite RPGs tend to be things like "Call of Cthulhu" and "Forgotten Futures" with a strong Victorian to Georgian (George V, that is) tone and history, but I often feel that the popular culture of the time is ignored when it should be a vital part of the world and the characters. NPCs ought to be playing records, going to the pictures, whistling the latest hits, referencing movie stars and stage actors, encouraging the PCs to read a new novel they're enamoured with—or recommending they avoid one they dislike.

A few sentences here and there, a name dropped, an encounter when shopping for sheet music or looking at the posters advertising coming acts… it doesn't take much to add to a great deal of flavour to the world and make it feel alive, rather than like those cheap cartoons where the only people moving or even present in a scene are the PCS.

Scene from the movie "Bullshot". The titular hero is attempting to fend off the advances of an attractive woman who is wearing a very revealing dress and has just put a jazz record on the gramophone. Caption: "Is this seemly, Mrs. Platt-Higgins? Playing popular music and your husband only ten years dead?"
Photograph taken in London in 1910. A figure wearing a straw boater is standing, partly obscured by an ornate lamppost, reading one of several advertising posters pasted along a wall. They include one for "The Sins of London" at the Lyceum; Madame Sarah Bernhardt and a number of other acts appearing at The London Coliseum, Charing Cross; and a travel poster advertising Blackpool by very sensibly not showing the town, but going for a painting of a smiling woman beside the sea instead.

mrcompletely,
@mrcompletely@heads.social avatar

@BigJackBrass you'd love this book. The best background for flavor and color in the urban Victorian era I've ever read. I got it dirt cheap used. A+ world builder fodder

Wow, tickets for Dead & Company at The Sphere in Vegas next week are as low as $100 on stub hub. Tempting.

I'm not a huge Deadhead, more Deadhead adjacent, but I once ate a taco with Billy Kruetzmann and his wife so feel a special kinship.

mrcompletely,
@mrcompletely@heads.social avatar

@brianvastag fwiw, my friends who are, let's say, casual dead & co fans at best def think the Sphere is worth a go. Not just the visuals - the sound is by all accounts the best anyone has ever heard. So that's neat

mrcompletely,
@mrcompletely@heads.social avatar

@brianvastag not every seat, but I think a majority in some sections have them. Apparently pretty great during drums and space
