Here's my fedi advice

Unfollow any and all of the super booster accounts. Build your feed organically.

I'm not sure why exactly, but it worked well for me. For one thing the "look at me senpai" energy around some of their followers is very Twitter style parasocial. And they're just subbing for an algo.

If you rely on them for most of your TL, do this first: follow anyone interesting that they boost for a week, then unfollow. It's easy.

If you don't want to, ok. Don't bother arguing with me

@danblondell precisely. With all kinds of topics starting with onboarding there's a common belief that in order to succeed mastodon has to recreate Twitter patterns, and where the platform doesn't support it users tend to fall into patterns that recreate aspects of it. But 1) every successful new platform is different and 2) what are the success criteria anyway? I want to let the Fediverse evolve organically without these persistent Twitter based patterns dragging behind it

Good news for fans, Scavengers' Reign is moving to Netflix. Why is this good news?

  1. it's the best science fiction show around despite the cheesy name
  2. not enough people saw it on Max
  3. so it got canceled (this news was out before the linked article)
  4. more people can see it on Netflix
  5. now maybe season 2 will happen?

I'm ok with it if one is all we get. It's that perfect and ends well. But if the same people do it I'd be glad for a second.

Does anyone (maybe @FediTips ) know of a masto client with very granular feed controls?

For example, I would like to be able to:

  • Filter certain words on a per user basis, so that I can e.g. filter posts from someone who posts a lot about a TV series whose main character is called Cat without limiting my access to the best thing about the internet (cat pics)
  • Decide that I only want to see a randomly selected 30% of posts from an account that posts good stuff but overwhelms my feed

Ideas?

I’d be ok with banning popcorn.

I mean, I don’t dislike it as a vessel for butter and/or sugar/spice. But I certainly wouldn’t miss it if it was gone. So much shit to pick out of your teeth. Always the potential for a tooth-cracking unpopped kernel.

Popcorn has earned more of our love than it deserves.
