the hardest privacy problem with encrypted communication is at the recipient side; everything has software and hardware backdoors these days, all mobile devices come with manufacturer daemons that can screenshot if not keylog everything, and you have no control over your recipient's security practices.

matrix is the most sophisticated messaging protocol, as it's able to prevent all these issues at the root, by making it impossible for the recipient to read your messages in the first place

To people using #xfce as their main Linux desktop environment (DE) for a longer period:

I'm using xfce (after running many different WMs + DE) for over 15 years or so and I'm quite happy with it.

It seems to be the case that X.Org enters a phase out phase and multiple Wayland implementations will replace it over time.

xfce might not even be ported fully to Wayland - at least not soon:

@publicvoit Would Enlightenment be something suitable for you? According to https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Wayland#Stacking it has support for Wayland and IIRC it's not as big as KDE/Plasma or GNOME.

I'm in a similar situation right now. On my PC I've been using XFCE for a long time, but I want to drop X11 where possible and move on to Wayland. My usual choice would be Sway, but I'd prefer something closer to XFCE on that system.

Lässt sich bei einstellen, in welcher Schrift Ortsnamen angezeigt werden?

Aktuell sehe ich arabische Ortsnamen nur in arabischer Schrift, chinesische Ortsnamen in nur chinesichen Schriftzeichen, usw. was nicht wirklich hilfreich ist, da ich keine dieser Schriften lesen kann.

@scy Thank you, the --word-diff option is definitely something worth remembering.

By the way: I wonder you diffoscope would have handled your use case (and now I'm going to try it out myself since I'm curious).

Edit: without prior conversion into a common format diffoscope is just diffing the hexdumps of both files.

Also es ist absolut nicht relevant, weil ich mir nicht mal ein Sims 4 Erweiterungspack leisten kann gerade, aber mich interessiert es trotzdem:
Was sind so die Erfahrungen mit großer Fernsehbildschirm vs. Beamer mit Leinwand im privaten Wohnzimmer? (Was sieht besser aus, was ist angenehmer, zu nutzen, was sind nervige Schwierigkeiten, usw.)

@chumii Ich kann zwar nur für Fernsehersetup sprechen, aber spontan fiele mir ein:

  • Beim Fernseher musst du nichts an die Decke schrauben und keine Kabel an der Decke lang ziehen.
  • Beim Fernseher hab ich auch noch nie den Lüfter gehört. Bei Beamern jedoch schon, v.a. wenn es warm war und sie die beste Bildqualität liefern sollten.
  • Fernseher haben Lautsprecher (wenn auch keine sonderlich guten)
  • erfahrungsgemäß musst du die Wohnung nicht unbedingt abdunkeln, um das Bild aufm Fernseher überhaupt erkennen zu können

@chumii mein hirn sagt mir, dass ich mal ein gutes kannte. ich befürchte nur, dass ich grad nicht an das backbuch rankomme, wo das rezept drinsteht.

das einfachste rezept, was mir direkt einfällt: biskuit-tortenboden holen, pudding-butter-creme draufmachen, pfirsiche segmentieren + auf der torte verteilen und dann klaren tortenguss drübergießen. lässt sich auch in klein als mini-törtchen machen.

@puniko @chumii @daniel_bohrer wobei ja walisisch wiederum über die keltischen sprachen mit gallisch zusammenhängt und gallisch wurde früher tatsächlich mal in der schweiz gesprochen. also "früher", als es da noch die helvetier gab und julius cäsar. :D
