@notjustbikes a new subway entrance to Museum Station in Toronto included a bike channel next to the stairs.

Looks like a good step (or ramp) in the right direction.

notjustbikes,
@notjustbikes@notjustbikes.com avatar

@soviut wow, I can't believe they would build something new with that awful design.

They don't build them like that anymore in the Netherlands because it's unergonomic and potentially dangerous to have it off to the side like that.

This is how they're designed here, with the groove in the middle of the stairs.

Tomorrow (Saturday June 1st) I will be joining Master Hellish and his friends for a network game of OpenTTD!

I'll be on the stream for the first game, from about 1000 to 1400 CET.

It's a fundraising stream for the Cancer Research Fund, so come join the chat and donate for a good cause!

The new Prime Minister of the Netherlands has a degree in urban planning, so that's something, I guess.

I'm just glad it's not Wilders.

@ombremad true, but on the bright side it seems like he might not be a literal Nazi?

The bar is so low these days. 😞

These guys actually tracked down a copy of Archie (including the source code) and now have a public Archie server back online!

Archie was the Internet's first search engine (before the web existed). I remember using it in the early 90s.

It's pretty funny how usable 90s tech is: imagine, a search engine that just gives you direct links to file downloads without any other nonsense involved!

Beste {voornaam|Babboe eigenaar}

I see that Babboe applies the same attention to detail to their emails that they do when designing their cargo bikes. 😂

I also love how I put in the frame number of my bakfiets into their website and it says it's not a valid frame number. Cool. Cool.

I'm curious to see what they actually do about our bakfiets.

Tried to renew my account, but they don't accept payments from a VISA debit card and I don't have a "real" credit card, so I can't pay for it. 😢

@notjustbikes I will keep following you on YouTube, but it's not the same.

notjustbikes,
@notjustbikes@notjustbikes.com avatar

@erwinrossen are you sure they don't support visa debit cards? That doesn't seem right. I've used one in the past for Nebula (before I got a free creator account).

I recommend that you contact their support.

What's crazy is that China is subsidizing the shit out of EVs, but also that Chinese EVs are also just way the fuck better than everybody else's.

Legacy manufacturers are just handing the market over the China. They're going to try to ban them with import taxes, but eventually the Chinese automakers will take over.

Of course, all of this will ultimately suck for cities where we need fewer cars, not different cars.

What a mess.

@notjustbikes Forgive me for fangirling, but knowing you're on Mastodon just made me entire day! Thank you for basically everything you've done with your online presence!

Fangirling over. Serious question, though: Have you ever been to and cycled to get to places in BC and what did you think? I spent 10 days in Victoria recently and it's not amazing, but a breath of fresh air for me as a resident of a "good" biking city by US standards. (Chicago)

notjustbikes,
@notjustbikes@notjustbikes.com avatar

@ADisorderlyFashion thanks!

No, I have not been to Victoria but I have friends who live there and it certainly seems more ahead that most places in US and Canada.

I've tried to visit several times but the flights are so expensive that I can never justify going there instead of any other destination.

TIL that there's been a trend towards "4x4" in Drum'n'Bass music lately. Which, uh, kinda defeats the purpose of DnB?

I dunno about you, but this just sounds to me like Happy Hardcore with a softer kick.

I mean, I'm not complaining, artists can make whatever they want, but it's funny to me that this song is on the channel "UKF Drum & Bass".

I just left Japan today and I'm going to miss those trains so much. 😭

It's fascinating how many times I've recieved almost this exact same comment

In order to write this, you need to fail at so many levels:

  1. not understand an obvious joke in a satirical video
  2. believe that I could miss "3.6L V6" literally WRITTEN ACROSS THE ENGINE in that scene
  3. believe that this is purposeful deception on my part
  4. not read the other hundred comments saying exactly the same thing

I guess some people's burning desire to "Well, ackshually" overrides all common sense. 🤦

This is a nice touch on the Taipei Airport Metro. Wireless charging!

notjustbikes,
@notjustbikes@notjustbikes.com avatar

@implicitdeny That is what I suspect, too.

But you might be able to build some kind of USB-PD relay that would allow PD negotiations but no other data transfer, though I suspect it would be expensive.

notjustbikes,
@notjustbikes@notjustbikes.com avatar

@thibaultmol I believe that's what the "circle" of dots is around the words "Charging Area", because that's where it charged my phone.

notjustbikes,
@notjustbikes@notjustbikes.com avatar

@krt3k yeah, I know they exist. I own lots of them! 😁

But the trickier part is re-negotiating USB-PD to the phone. This isn't rocket science, and just would require a microcontroller and another USB-PD chip, but the cost would add up for a low volume commercial product.
