Had dinner at a Mexican restaurant in San Dimas this evening. On the wall next to our table was a poster of the front page of The San Francisco Chronicle from April 1916.

Far below the fold and the sordid tales of Pancho Villa’s battles, this article had the table in stitches. It is best read out loud for maximum effect.

The writing in today’s papers can’t hold a candle to this fantastical reporting!

Once I fixed the Frontier tech’s rookie mistake - he plugged the WAN line into the 1gb port - it’s screaming fast.

Replaced the supplied Amazon eero router with a TP-Link 2.5gb router, plugged in a new 2.5gb switch, and reconnected the eero to THAT, it still screams and the rest of the wired network gets 2.5gb speed, too, where the device supports it.

It shouldn’t be this hard,

Brought home some new dog toys from Costco today. I unboxed them and tossed them around the kitchen.

Stella promptly gathered them up, one at a time, and carried them onto the dog bed in the family room. She took one upstairs and put it in her nighttime sleeping spot. She came back downstairs and settled in for some rest among the remainder.

Smarty Pants dog, this one. Ten years old, poor eyesight and questionable motor skills can’t stop a determined Pomona Street Dog!

The California poppies are finally blooming on the hillside. We planted mostly natives this time around, and with no big dogs to rip up the landscaping we scattered poppy seeds in the early spring.

Most of the green carpet here is poppy plants, with a few sages and yellow daisies visible.

Within a week or two we’ll have our own little SuperBloom. Hopefully they reseed well for next year too.

At last the screws are right in their spaces and the water + power turned on. The little little R2 unit proved more than capable.

Instructions say “fasten with screws” for various parts.

Perhaps “alert and sober” should be instruction #1
at the packaging station.

Out for a ride today, and I believe I discovered the Field Of Beans.

Castor bean plants have taken over most of this hillside.
