Old ink leans teal if looking closely, and the sheen looks redder. The new ink is more straight up dark blue, and the sheen looks more gold. Purportedly reformulated ~2015.

#Vintage Pelikan vs. Modern Pelikan

Comparison between Pelikan 140 (c. 1960) and Pelikan M400 (c. 2010), both green-striped.

The color of the 140 has faded from age and sun exposure, but you can see that near the section, there is about a centimeter of stripe that would usually be under the cap and wouldn't be exposed to direct sunlight. So the color there is actually much closer to the modern M400.

Saw this quick review by MarcyMe of this year’s SE Pelikan Edelstein ink, Golden Lapis, seems to be same gold shimmer as in the Golden Beryl but with a blue base color.

Nib: PenBBS Calligraphy No. 6

This nib takes a bit of getting used to as it does have a very defined sweet spot. However, it shows shading extremely well and pairs nicely with a shading ink like this one. And if you’re writing Chinese, it’s a bit of magic— it made my awful Chinese cursive actually look kind of artistic or something.

Final continuation of this saga:

So after I dropped my Moonman A1 #FountainPen a couple months ago, I sent the nib to the nibmeister, however, small steel nibs are very difficult to fix, it came back writing but not feeling quite right. So I ended up buying a Décimo to replace it.

But I still wanted to do something with the A1 and @alexa488 kindly offered to sell a Pilot Capless F nib unit to me, I have now put it into the pen and it is “back, baby!”

Pilot Capless (1964)

This pen came with a crack in the barrel where it threads onto the section, and a small chunk of plastic chipped off. In the first two pictures you can see the solvent haze from when I welded the crack, including dissolving the area around the chip. The latter pictures show the pen now, after sanding and polishing. A mark is still visible if you look for it very closely, but it’s structurally sound and should write for a long time!
