Colorverse Supernova

This ink's "B-side" was Colorverse Quasar, which is a darker royal blue while this is a cerulean. Lots of shading and sheen, quite saturated and very nice in both fine and broad nibs. In terms of the color, it's similar to Birmingham Pen Co. Ultramarine.

Moonman Ti 200 mini review

This titanium alloy #FountainPen comes in brushed and polished finishes, and steel/gold nib option, both F. I picked brushed with steel nib.

Pros:

• Well-balanced, substantial but not too heavy.
• Nib is excellent. Seems same nib as on the Jinhao 51A and Wing Sung 601.
• Ergonomics are good; almost exactly identical in dimensions to the Parker 51.
• Brushed metal section is easy to grip and isn't slippery.
• Overall, writing with the pen is pleasant and flowing.

#Vintage Pelikan vs. Modern Pelikan

Comparison between Pelikan 140 (c. 1960) and Pelikan M400 (c. 2010), both green-striped.

The color of the 140 has faded from age and sun exposure, but you can see that near the section, there is about a centimeter of stripe that would usually be under the cap and wouldn't be exposed to direct sunlight. So the color there is actually much closer to the modern M400.

Diamine Ancient Copper

This is another one of the classic Diamine inks. A dramatic copper red, shading apparent in finer nibs; with wetter pens, there is still color variation but less of the shading pooling effect. Visibly darker on more absorbent paper. (Thanks to my elite #FPSanta for the ink!)

Pilot Iroshizuku Kon-peki 紺碧

Kon-peki means azure and the ink is a shading ink that pretty much nails the range of colors of a clear azure sky. I know this is a lot of people's favorite, but I prefer the "night" blues like Tsuki-yo 月夜. Good thing the Iroshizuku line gives us plenty of blues to choose from (:

A shading turquoise with minimal sheen, unlike day 18's Gravity Wave, and leaning brighter and more green than Gravity Wave and Ku-jaku. Still plenty of contrast for daily writing but a nice change of color.

This peacock color is true to its name, a vibrant green-leaning blue or turquoise. Not much of a sheener although some red on the edges can be seen in very large writing. This is a nice high-contrast writing ink.

Noodler's Apache Sunset (Southwest Sunset)

Sunrise, sunset, sunrise, sunset—you get the idea.

Long one of Noodler's most popular inks. One of the best examples of shading inks; very visible variation from yellow to orange, as the name might suggest. Very light in a finer nib, but very suitable for inkier nibs like fude, or brush pens.

Poezie Night 夜

Poezie is one of a number of new Chinese boutique ink makers that have cropped up as a result of the stationery renaissance. Their interpretation of the color of night seems to be a teal-black, sort of like a blacker version of old Waterman Mysterious Blue.

Nice shading and good flow, probably better looking in drier pens than this one.

Herbin Bleu des profundeurs

Staying with the sea, this “deep ocean blue” is on its face a true midnight blue, but there is a hint of gold sheen only seen at certain angles. Shading minimal, unlike other inks in this color range such as Pilot Shin-kai or Sailor Yonaga.

Certainly a good choice for a midnight blue with some depth to it (pun intended).

Pelikan Edelstein Garnet

True to its name, a saturated jewel-tone red. Low but visible shading, some dark red sheen. This was originally Pelikan’s 2014 Ink of the Year, and later was made a regular edition color in 2019.
