So I want to leave .social for a better server that doesn't federate with Threads, but the ones on the fedipact website either actually do federate with Threads anyway (looking at you mas.to) or they're invite-only. :(
@tokyo_0@trumpet I signed up for an account there and the other users warned me that's what was going on. I deleted my mas.to account promptly afterwards. 🤷
All digital businesses have the technical capacity to enshittify: the ability to change the underlying functions of the business from moment to moment and user to user, allowing for the rapid transfer of value between business customers, end users and shareholders:
If you'd like an essay-formatted version of this thread to read or share, here's a link to it on pluralistic.net, my surveillance-free, ad-free, tracker-free blog:
@pluralistic So basically, we can do research and compile a list of garbage sociopath execs who are directly responsible for the enshittification of the internet.
What if our accounts had a hidden "likely mansplainer" score based on how big of a portion our replies are to people who don't follow us back, and then we added a setting to hide notifications from accounts that have this score above certain level? 🤔
I've been monitoring the ups and downs of rebuilding subscriptions post-Amazon for the magazines that have been impacted. Unsurprisingly, it turns out that survival depends on us being more shameless. So...
#Biden “Takes Aim at #Musk’s SpaceX’s Tax-Free Ride in American Airspace
President Biden wants companies that use American airspace for rocket launches to start paying taxes into a federal fund that finances the work of air traffic controllers.”
@Snowshadow@GottaLaff@BernieDoesIt TBH that is why I am considering just not voting this election. If the only opposition to a fascist is someone who will ultimately bend to one in the face of actually having to take responsibility and use force otherwise, then either way we'll have fascists running things.
I live in america on half the poverty line. I'm pretty poor by any measure. When i fry eggs for myself, i usually fry four. I know that's an absurd luxury by the standards of most people in history, but financially it's silly for me to ration eggs.
So was there a study over the last couple months showing evidence that the strength of dark energy is not consistently isotropic/homogeneous in space and time?
And if this study happened… how reliable/definitive is it?
I saw a popular press article that seemed to be saying this, but it was a popular press article and those mangle physics studies all the time.
@mcc I don't see why it would require NASA getting knocked down a peg. If anything, it's probably evidence of another universe or something outside of our universe pulling on our own. That would go a loooooong way toward explaining why the various pushing and pulling we're seeing is inconsistent.
@datarama@mcc I don't see how it would be up in the air. Humans feed that data into AI and use the churned remains so it's still a human violating the copyright.
@mcc And no one accepts that because of what I'm saying. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. People need to start recognizing that fact. That's the only way things will change.
