Happy #FossilFriday, check out this skull from a juvenile Gryposaurus! These hadrosaurs called North America their home roughly 75 million years ago, and this particular individual would have enjoyed the lush jungle that makes up the Kaiparowits Formation. (1/2)

Art of the desert

A blanket of purple hairy dewflowers (Drosanthemum hispidum) springs up from the top of tiny, green succulent leaves. Sunlight reflects off many white anthers, giving the flowers a soft glow.
A single yellow desert evening-primrose (Oenothera primiveris) stretches out from orange sand, its yellow face directly visible. Just below the long anthers in the center of the flower, a yellow crab spider (Misumena sp.?) puts on a threat display, its first and second pair of legs raised high.
A bright red desert paintbrush (Castilleja angustifolia) stands tall above a mixed array of scrubby desert plants. Further scrub and orange sand makes up the background landscape.

For #FossilFriday, we're taking a look at not true fossils, but preserved mud cracks. Below this incredible natural cast of a Eubrontes track, the wide mudcracks were formed during a period of drought and later preserved by water carrying sediment. (1/3)
