Ahoy friends. The keenly observant may have noticed a recent edit in the bio.

We send every track played with artist support info to a bot. That server however throttles public posts, making our sorting and searching hashtag inclusions on such posts mostly null and void.

It is still live while we test the new solution as linked in bio @rff

@Radgryd Correct on the mixed licensing, we pormote and pass along the artists preferrred license at a per track levek.

As per our website, all music we play regardless of license is explicitly consented for play on RFF format only and not for rebroadcast.

We built this as a test case but we do not have the resources for the retroactive onboarding of 350 artists with stream friendly channel(s) as an option, nor to fork, curate and sustain more channels at this time.

@Radgryd Our nowplaying resources and website list every track's license and the artist's primary or most restrictive license on record respectively.

There's a fair bit of open license variations on the list that may suit a non commercial attribution use.

We were building an OBS friendly web player embed to take care of the attribution and linking and the obligation to consent RFF would gather on behalf, but spoons, weeks of admin re-gathering consent, and sustaining more channels are barriers

@Radgryd If not enough artists were interested in offering music we would have further dimininished pool.

One of the flaws of our fast growth and being microblog based is poor group comms tools. We've some stop gaps and co-dev relationships toward better, safer community organising and group tools. Things like this might be better mobilised in the future. Another reason this was put on the backburner.

Cheers for the interest so artists might see some value in an amiable way to work together.

With constant challenges of ephemera, safety, drama, and server folding due to costs and pressures of all kinds, it's quite the challenge to keep up with all account changes out there on the feeds.

It's a constant item on our radar and we try to proactively keep up with what we can see.

RFF artist and friend of the community @limebar helped us with some new fedi account compares based on our directory.

The good news is we've managed to clean or re-find most of the outstanding descrepencies or deprecated fedi accounts. Out of over 320 contributing artists, we are now fedi incommunicado with only 5 atm.

We love going the extra mile to align support links and public fedi links for consenting artists and in fact every track. We hope you continue to find it beneficial and fun.

: I'd like to be part of a digital age version of the old record club.

I'm imagining getting an email every time a kiwi music act releases a new record. The email tells me where I can listen to the record. It also tells me the best way to give money to the act if I like it, so that most of the money goes to them rather than intermediaries.

The cool thing is that an email newsletter like this is totally platform independent, and requires minimal coordination.

@strypey For RFF it'd be more of a list of all new releases in a spell not geography plus our scope is only artists active for two way support and comradery on fedi.

Spoon count for another platform and collation job.. plus the caveat it'd be here is all the new releases "that we know of or advised of" will be issues.

We need to focus on safe, durable less ephemeral organising tools first as in our recent posts.

Of note, we've secured the voice volunteers for a possible new music programme.

We're very happy to have linked up with @bonfire as a pilot project to explore co-designing tools for safer, more efficient organising, planning, collaboration and communication both among the RFF artists and contributers as well as out to the wider community and the world.

The ethea of our projects are very complimentary. If you've been keeping an eye on the work they are doing we hope RFF's participation can soon help contribute some helpful "on the ground" context.

Clear the decks.

TLDR We can't burn the human power as we did in '23. We're requesting a "staff" donation goal in the hopes the community will back RFF going all in for '24. If not we'll scale back offerings and initiatives.

Either way we still need more help from the community for station direction and community building and outreach out in the feeds.

Not sure how improve reach or better convey the victim of success RFF is. I don't want to feel trapped to a diminished community service cheapening ethos nor want anyone else to feel obligated.

I've outlined a brutally modest, voluntarily exploitative plan that will allow RFF to sustain for 2024 and coordinated community involvement willing, grow how we can amplify independent creative voices together.

@n3wjack Have you investigated the Specialty channel?

7 hours per day are specifically synths and kicks in the SYNTHETIC and CLUB blocks.

3 more hours per day are CHIP and other bit tunes.

There is quite a lot of electronic in the further 6 hours that are ATMOSPHERE and EXPERIMENTS blocks.

That's 16 hours of the day that are almost zero guitar driven. Plus 3 hours of RFF SINGS that on the margins has a fair whack of trip hop and synth based stuff under vocals.
