The rise of financial sovereignty — and why some Australians believe they don't have to pay tax - ABC News

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-04-08/financial-sovereignty-and-why-some-think-ato-is-not-real/103578948

ray1705,

@anathema_device I actually sympathise how these people feel. Now, I'm not saying that I encourage people to not pay their taxes, and again, I also agree that these people will cost us a lot.

But the way how the Commonwealth taxes is just not equitable. There should be more reforms that in the end, the tax system will encourage us to save up more or give us more room to breathe.

I was listening to my own music last night, which is not unusual, I listen to my own music quite a bit. I like it. But as I listened to it last night, I began to view it for the first time as a body of work. I’m not sure what it was before that moment, but as I played through the almost-hour long collection of my original songs, I was struck with the feeling that this is… a thing, a representation of something, I’m not sure what. I’m usually good with words, but I’m finding it difficult to describe the shift I felt. I know I must continue to add to this body of work, and that the work must stay true to itself. Music for the sake of music, and tunes that I personally enjoy listening to over and over again. I’m not sure if it was because I’d just binged on Ween, or maybe had too much sugar, but it was like an epiphany, and The Dgar Project has taken a new seat in my own consciousness. I am a songwriter, and this year, I’m writing songs.

Here’s the link if you’d like to open up the for yourself and see what’s inside.

ray1705,

@dgar Hmm... Sometimes when I read books, I often wonder how the writers poured in.

I don't encourage people to use alcohol or recreational drugs, but when a person feels strong emotionally, that's when they should pour their emotions into something else, whether it be essays, paintings, songs, etc.

Just like Lee Child. A pot of black coffee and some cigarettes helped him to write many books.

By the way, I like the minimalistic production. 👍

it would be really nice if laptops with backlit keyboards also had backlit touchpads. Especially for thinkpads - I find it a little difficult to locate the middle click button in the dark.

ray1705,

@mightyspaceman Most ThinkPads do not offer backlit trackpads, but as far as I see, it is still a good laptop for users

Is it the queen's birthday long weekend or do we have to call it the king's birthday long weekend ... It doesn't really roll off the tongue ... Giggles

Not my king !

Hugz & xXx

ray1705,

@melissabeartrix My response is mixed here. When HM Queen Elizabeth passed away, I couldn't help, but tried to find ways to pay respects to her.

I decided to take an English test; after all, English is not my first language. So you can say I was moved by that major event, and that test helped me to seize better opportunities.

But at the same time, I understand this frustration. In my opinion, even though the system is not broken, I feel monarchy does not serve modern Australia effectively, or to her fullest potential.

Again, this is just my two-cents.

I thought it might be a good idea to give an here.

As I'm still working in a mining area, and the only network I have access to is via our employer's WIFI network, there is a firewall that blocks a lot of websites. Because of this, I might as well give Mastodon a go, and I find to be quite unique, as the idea of is not centralised.

I am picking up some programming skills, and currently I am learning SQL. But I'm not going to talk about or with this account, because that kind of content is not relevant to this server.

I'll be staying in Far North Queensland this year. Feel free to reach me out, or you can follow my other Mastodon account, which is mostly related to .

And here's a sunset I took last year. Have a good one!

Four day week, followed by a four day weekend, followed by a four day week…

    This should be the norm.

    ray1705,

@dgar I'd love to, but most businesses would not want to implement this.
