Strongly considering starting yet another version of Monica. I fear the new version is too complex and adds too much customization capabilities.

A new version, with only the core features, with simple technologies, without Vue, only Laravel + Blade + HTMX when needed. The simplest possible stack.

This quote from Ron Swanson (the greatest man who ever lived on TV) resonates with me about remote work.

"I once worked with a guy for three years and never learned his name. Best friend I ever had. We still never talk sometimes."

With shipping now with a way to talk to ChatGPT, remember that there are many alternatives on mac, and on linux as well.

Kitty is a very nice replacement https://sw.kovidgoyal.net/kitty/ that you can completely customized through a config file.

I've been using it for months and it's a joy.

Now that I've switched my blog to use , it makes much more fun to update it again.

Finally updated my /uses page. Updated some screenshots and apps. (The biggest change is that I've replaced Feedbin with Reeder.app)

@stefanzweifel Oh! It made me realize that Plexamp exists for macOS with the iOS app, and it's great since I used the plex web version which is not as good as the dedicated music app.

Thanks for Bruno, didn't know this one.

It's not a popular opinion amongst movie lovers, but while Children of men is a good movie with 2 excellent scenes, I don't understand why it's classified as almost a masterpiece.

What should I know before open-sourcing my program?

My goal is to improve it by letting people submit changes, and making it easier for me to ask for help. I would still make the final call on decisions.

(Blog posts welcome! Boost if you care. The program is @songpocket)

regis,
@regis@phpc.social avatar

@CursiveHello @songpocket - provide a nice readme so people know how to use it, install it, or contribute

  • don't forget to add a licence, whatever that is
  • indicate whether you plan to maintain it for a long time or not
  • do not merge something you are not comfortable with, since you will be the one who will have to maintain forever

@pawelgrzybek You also don't have to install the Logi Options+ software at all to use the mouse entirely on your mac.

Solves all problems.

The more I think about it, the more I think that Oppenheimer earning 1B$ last year was a big misunderstanding.

Honestly. It was a decent movie. But it was 1) way too long, 2) a bit boring, 3) not visually appealing (no clue why you would want to see it in IMAX).

Nolan without his brother is not a great director.

A bit shocked that despite watching a lot of movies, I've only watched 12% of the 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die list.

I should watch better movies.

@stefanzweifel @robb I've been using Raycast for a year. It has completely replaced Alfred for me.
Also, AI integration inside Raycast is truly the secret weapon. I thought it was a gimmick - how wrong I was.

regis,

@stefanzweifel I thought so too.

It's actually so useful. At work, I use it multiple times per day (I have a job where I have to write a lot of emails and ideas).

GitHub awesome list idea. Maintain a list of apps without AI integration.

PS. Remove Slack from this list.

🤦‍♂️

regis,

@pawelgrzybek Most commercial apps either have, or will have, AI integration. Markets demand it.
From a user point of view, 🤢.

I've recently started watching Yellowstone, the TV show, and I must say, it's been a great experience.
I just finished the first season and it's incredibly well-written and directed. Characters have depth. It's refreshing to come across such high-quality shows, and I understand the hype.

I've been using @plexamp extensively for more than a month now.
I've stopped using Apple Music and Youtube music.

I haven't missed them once. Plexamp is excellent. I have nothing but good words for it. It feels really, really good to own my music again.

regis,
@regis@phpc.social avatar

@ivomynttinen @plexamp Exactly this.
I've obtained FLAC versions of all the albums I love. Put them in your Plex instance. And enjoy. The iOS Plexamp app (which is their dedicated music app) is extremely good and well thought.
It means I don't have to worry about publishers removing music from streaming platforms, or Apple Music deciding to delete all my music, for instance.

regis,
@regis@phpc.social avatar

@ivomynttinen Yes, the port is open for Plex to be publicly accessible, but it's still only accessible if you are authenticated.
I've been on the Plexamp subreddit for a while now, and your point really doesn't seem to be an issue at all.
Overall, I've found Plexamp so great that I've subscribed to Plex Pro - something I didn't even consider before despite having a huge movies library.

regis,
@regis@phpc.social avatar

@ivomynttinen You just have to consider that owning your own music means no possibility to discover new music.
I don't mind personally. But some people do.
I'll be aware of new music through other channels - dedicated podcasts, some subreddits, newsletters.
It's so great to be independent again in my music consumption. I truly feel free - weird things to say about music, but still.

regis,
@regis@phpc.social avatar

@ivomynttinen Lol.
I tried YouTube Music since I'm subscribed to YouTube Pro, from Canada.
I only get Indian music as recommendations too.

(I actually discovered some cool tracks coming from India in the meantime)

While making my PHP packages compatible with Laravel 11 the last few weeks, I've also spent some time and added PHPStan to all of them.

The more simpler ones are already on level 9. The more complex are still on level 5 or 6. I'm still a novice when it comes to proper type documentation. Goal is to increase levels throughout the year.

@stefanzweifel I’ve tried the level max on my projects and it’s just impossible.
I think even a default Laravel app doesn’t pass it.

Fourth time's the charm? Been trying to switch to for a couple months. First tried writing my own config from scratch, got frustrated, tried a couple of distributions, found that even more frustrating (they do too much and changed old vim defaults, which is intolerable, so I had to undo a lot). Blew it all away today and started again with the "kickstart" (https://github.com/nvim-lua/kickstart.nvim), which is immediately more palatable to my old vim soul. No weird keymaps (Lazyvim changes s|S!?).
