Kind of astonishing to read that a US university has to designate "a recognized free speech zone on campus," but students are still arrested for exercising their rights in that zone. The Constitution is just a worthless piece of paper I guess.

NYC Mayor Eric Adams continues to encourage businesses to request customers to unmask. This is ableist, puts people's health at risk, and is NOT required by law.

I’m impressed by the intellectual flexibility that’s required to believe that college kids are both afflicted with extreme wokeness and are also prone to rabid expressions of .

These things can only be reconciled by claiming that calls for divestment or a ceasefire are inherently antisemitic. Which is common but nonsensical.

Cop/Mayor Eric Adams refers to defunding the library systems as just "part of the negotiation process," which is an additional burden on top of the important work they do. NYPD have gotten a few rounds of REfunding, but libraries (which have already had to cut Saturday service) have to fight for every penny.
When he says (with his shit faced grin) "We all know how important libraries are" it's just a script someone else must have written for him.

I am getting the sense that if this is encouraged to build any larger, all that will be achieved is a lot of commencements, if not graduations themselves, will be delayed or canceled outright, denying tens of thousands of students that hard-earned once in a lifetime moment.

the guy at our contract dmv office just told me he bought a building in town for his combo dmv and sport fishing boat rental business and he’s gonna make 3 new apartments upstairs (👍🏼) but air bnb them for his fishing tourists (😢). I was like what about how we have no places for people to live and he was like sorry, the law is set up to hurt the landlord, protect the tenant, I won’t do it. And there you have housing in rural AK right now

@seachanger Yup. Here in NY 2 family homeowners get on the radio to complain about any regulation designed to protect tenants from mega slum lords. Big real estate has convinced them to side with slum lords even on rules that don't apply to their 1 or 2 rental units.

cringing at this whole grants pass vs the homeless scotus case because my grandma and many other white flight reaganite retirees moved there in the 1980s and voted to systematically defund their own city and county governments over and over again, to the point where they didn’t even have cops at one point let alone social services. people were literally lining up at gun shops to defend themselves in that town after they defunded their own police
