My Pause for Thought last night/early this morning was on the theme "My Dream Garden" (and a bit about climate justice). https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0hzl0lw

The new issue of Studies is out, including articles on John Woolman, power and powerlessness in Quaker theology, and a review of The Quaker World. My personal contribution was mainly limited to writing a brief editorial (Rebecca Wynter and I are co-editors and take turns).

The @QuakerRelThot sessions over the weekend were rich international discussions, exploring the current state of the movement George Fox created and the many different ways it has developed around the world.
I spoke in the second panel, about Quaker theological discussion and how it might inform antiracist work. Both panels were recorded and are on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@quakertheologicaldiscussio8853

20:
Do you have an author's website specifically for promoting your writing?

I have a personal website, which also functions as a blog - and you can sign up to get posts by email so it works as a newsletter too. It has pages for the different types of writing I do: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, etc. It's a free WordPress site, as I don't make enough money writing to justify a paid one, but I think it does what I need it to do for now.

8. Did you like to read as a child? Which books did you read?

Yes, I've always loved to read, and I'm sure I've forgotten most of the books! I remember reading Lord of the Rings at a school camp aged about eleven. I read lots of kids' fantasy books (Barmey Jeffers as well as better known ones), animal books of all sorts (Gerald Durrell, Black Beauty, Pony Club stories), Sherlock Holmes, James Bond, Ulysses, Garp, poetry, archaeology, mythology, wrappers, orange juice boxes...

rhiannongrant,

@greenback that's impressive! At some times I kept Reading Record book for school, but if it survives it's in my parents' loft or somewhere.

7 — Share an image of a favorite book cover design, other than your own.

A recent book with a cover I really admire is Ember of a New World by Ishtar Watson @antiproton - I love that it brings the world and the main character to life, and the effort that went into making it archaeologically accurate.

@antiproton Yes, she's done lots of amazing work for you! Commissioning custom art isn't in my budget at the moment, but I'm glad I get to enjoy these pieces. 😃

I'm tired. I've got masses to do, across all my career areas, much of it with approaching deadlines and/or high stakes in some way, and to put the icing on the cake my printer chose today to stop working.

5 : Do you have an intended audience for your writing?

Myself first. I need to want to read it or I don't write it.

Then others depending on the project:
Quakers who want to do theology; people who want to understand Quakers better; people who want to explore ideas; sapphic women who want to see themselves in stories; people who want to explore different times and experiences...

I do almost always have an audience in mind, whatever I'm working on.

@rhiannongrant

Firstly, I will be listening to that podcast tomorrow and while I'm really excited! Nobody ever mentions me lol

Secondly, I'm in the middle of reading your book right now which I'm already liking. May I tell people I'm reading it if it hasn't been released yet? Sounds like I'm too late to give you any constructive feedback per se, but I'll definitely leave a review and if you ever make a physical edition, I'll definitely buy one. 😃

@rhiannongrant@mastodon.org.uk avatar

@antiproton You're welcome. 😀

Yes, please feel free to tell people you're reading it - publication day is tomorrow so it may be out before you finish! Reviews always welcome, of course.

Also, if you want a physical copy you can order it here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1739593820/

@antiproton enjoy! storage space problems prevent me from buying as many books as I might like, but I agree it is nice to hold a real copy sometimes. 😀

1 Intro: Shameless Self Promotion. Tell us about yourself, your published work or WIP

I write in multiple genres: fiction, mainly sapphic romance books set in prehistory; nonfiction, mainly about Quakers; and academic work about religion and philosophy.

So far there are eight books in the world with my name on the cover.
Between Boat & Shore was my first novel (and it's on sale at the moment as part of Monday's Queer Your Bookshelf promotions): https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0B3VSCHNC/
