I've long thought that chess would be the killer app for mixed reality.

This is not quite it:
https://mixed-news.com/en/meta-quest-3-mr-chess-hands-on/

Yeah, I know chess is mostly an abstract thing that you play in your head, but the aesthetic of moving real pieces, and seeing virtual pieces move in response would be cool too see for at least 5 minutes ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hoping that a version will appear in my lifetime that doesn't have the "Big Zucker" mascot.

Now that programming has been declared dead by the AI pundits, we can go back to the days when programming was actually fun.
There's a game on Steam that lets you program like it's 1985 on a fictional computer called TIS-100
Trailer ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSg1qT2aNnw

My friends on Steam are all pinball players, but it turns out several have played TIS-100.
Every puzzle ranks my optimization skills against theirs.
This is like nerd-squared territory

The puzzles are described as "crack for engineers".

Imagine trying to solve problems using alien technology with weird constraints.

The pass through features sound impressive. But how much of our brain's bandwidth do we need to spend on visual experience?
After we experience the novelty of a particular space, we tend to let it fade into the background.

There are reasons we close our eyes to experience something profound.

Let's check on the state of Unreal Engine support for Vision Pro

ChatGPT knows more about slavery in my home town than I do:

The salt industry played a significant role in Kanawha County's economy during the 19th century. Salt production was labor-intensive, and enslaved individuals were often employed in the salt furnaces and mines. Salt was a crucial commodity for preserving food, and the industry thrived in the Kanawha Valley.

Good advice from [looks both ways before saying it] ChatGPT.

Remember, the goal is to infuse a sense of wonder and creativity into your routine, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. ... and let your imagination guide you on a daily quest through the realms of inspiration.

Generative gameplay with Desynced

is a factory automation game clearly rooted in Factorio, where the factory is an entire planet.

It has a couple twists.

  1. The story line puts you into some fresh sci-fi territory, but I won't spoil it here.

  2. The game puts "generative tools" in the hands of the player. Not just for modders. A casual player with programming abilities can automate the behavior of bots and buildings in the game.

The cover art for Hell is a slice of a kaleidoscopic image resembling three judges. It reminds me of the "Observer" experience in Waltz of the Wizard (VR game).

Does Peter Stormare appear in both "The Big Lebowski" and "Nacho Libre"?

ChatGPT
I apologize for any confusion in my previous response. I appreciate your correction. Peter Stormare does, in fact, appear in both "The Big Lebowski" and "Nacho Libre."

In "The Big Lebowski" (1998), Peter Stormare has a brief but memorable role as a nihilist named Uli Kunkel.

In "Nacho Libre" (2006), directed by Jared Hess, Peter Stormare plays the role of Emperor.

Tim Dorsey wrote a series of laugh-out-loud road trip novels about a vigilante "Florida historian" who kept room in his trunk for fictional criminals to await their "trials".
His early novels were full of knee-slapping metaphors.

His "Maltese Iguana" released in Feb, 2023 included a treatment of Operation Northwoods.

He died on Nov 26 at age 61.

The only reason to have is to make it easy for a relatively small alien invasion force to take over the planet.

The aliens need only control the humans at the receiving end of the wealth/power funnels.
