The re-brand of the Fediverse as "Mastodon" has created big problems -- problems that were both predictable and preventable.
For one thing, the honeymoon period for Mastodon is over.
People aren't willing to ignore its flaws anymore because it's the one alternative to Twitter that has traction.
Now people want creature comforts.
But guess what? Because the entirety of the Fediverse is branded as "Mastodon", people are more likely to migrate to Bluesky than elsewhere on the Fediverse.
@atomicpoet I've been exploring lots, trying to learn as much as I can. From what I can tell the Fediverse is a pretty idealized form of social media, so I'm willing to experiment with new clients, instances etc.
BUT nothing matters more to me than the inter-connectivity of it all. I want all my posts to be accessible by all the other platforms. That's why I'm cross-posting with Twitter too, and why I'll only change servers if I can bring my posts with me!
When you write hashtags that contain multiple words, make the first letter of each word a capital letter, for example #DogsOfMastodon. This will make the tag readable to blind people.
Blind people use the internet through screen reader apps, which read text out aloud. By putting a capital at the start of each word in a hashtag, you are telling the screen reader how to say the tag correctly.
In the non-techy world this is generally known as "CamelCase".
Salad kits are great when you want to pretend you are trying to be healthy but also don't have the energy to go outside and chop cabbages off of your cabbage tree and summon the Ranch God.
@Mastodon Interested to see what "search" is going to mean. My understanding was that the search function worked the way it did as a byproduct of the Fediverse..
