• Gets even more of the thing I've decided I don't want
• Tweaks the query in an attempt to get something different
• More of the same
• Leaves

How is this good for business? Do these companies no longer understand their search algorithms well enough to fix this? It's very weird, and everywhere.

I've worked a lot with non profits, open source, community projects, public service organisations etc etc over the years and there is a phenomenon I refer to as "but we're the good guys" syndrome

When folk have their identities all bound up with a job or activity and you say something that challenges them on some basic facet of what they believe they're doing it for, it makes them feel their very identity is under threat and they can really lose their shit!
