Know how in sites that list properties for rent or sale they blur any faces in photos for privacy, well this is what happened to our John Wick picture 🤣

Not linking directly because I don't want to shit on projects I believe are genuinely trying to make the web better, but every time I see a post about "the small web" or a more "humane" web or whatever that includes phrases like this about content: "created without the motivation of financial gain" I sigh so deeply lol

I am begging ethical web enthusiasts to understand what an extreme privilege it is to spend time working on something without worrying about money

What do you do when you get the "Hi" or similar contextless slack DM?

I mean, optimism is just a belief that the thing you want will happen. If you're a cunt, it probably means you hope something dreadful will happen. 🙃

Trying to clear out some books, got rid of a lot of books but we still have far too many books. 🥴

As the token poor kid who got to go to uni I can assure you the idea that policies like affirmative action lower standards is extremely hilarious. You want to see low standards? Surround yourself with the privileged LOL

People are very upset about replies and unsolicited advice..

It makes me wonder about other ways to build consent into social media ux, like the little warning that appears when you're about to reply to someone not in your network, if you could configure that for your own account to say "if I'm not explicitly asking a question please don't give me advice" or whatever idk

Tried to google trauma dumping but autocorrect changed it to trauma dumpling, the results however did not disappoint

Folk using "algorithms" to refer to everything that's wrong with the web the way folk believed "miasma" caused the spread of disease pre sanitation

Here's the thing I can't get my head around, I almost never reply to folk on social media unless they're a mutual or they replied to me first.. Maybe also if they explicitly asked for information and I have it..?

I kind of get replying to dunk on someone powerful, but replying to ordinary punters you don't know to disagree, be critical, or patronising is.. Where the fuck are folk learning this is appropriate

The chat about AI assisted coding has been rattling around my head as it indicates our failure to articulate the skills in software development, so I wrote about it on the @glitchdotcom blog

Hint: It's no just writing code pal

Here's a thing that continually blows my mind working in tech, the number of folk who have easily earned enough to retire and yet continue to work, I don't get it

sue, to random
@sue@glasgow.social avatar

In the tech industry there is a belief that there are "technical" and "non-technical" roles, and that legitimacy in the non-technical roles is dependent on being technical enough. So all these folk in essential roles are meant to be technical but have chosen the non-technical (and typically therefore lower paying) roles because they have some personal passion for whatever the non-technical role is.

As someone who went from poverty to being in a high tax band I can assure folk you are never worse off by earning more money because of taxation, rich people claiming that are talking shite 👍🏻

And as someone who mostly interacts with people in other countries for work I can assure you high earners have a fantastic quality of life in Scotland, so the claim that they'll be "forced" to leave is just sheer fucking greed, good riddance to anyone who feels that way 👍🏻

The year is 2025, there is now one social network for every twelve people in the world, each dedicated to discussing the other social networks that are available

Nothing radicalises me more against the gatekeeping that is quite literally built into software engineering tooling than setting up local developer environments lol I had to do it this week and you better believe a blog post is incoming 😂

The folk who lived in our new house were clearly from money, and left the place an absolute pigsty. We moved from an ex council house so of course nothing fancy but the way we left it you could have eaten your fucking dinner off any surface.

Posh people are utterly useless tbqh.

I'd like back all the hours I've spent over the years trying figure out the correct incantations of quotation marks and escape characters to get computers to do what I want with some text.

You better believe I ran across the street when I noticed this lassie on a community school mural is holding a copy of Pedagogy of the Oppressed 😍

Mural showing people with inspirational signs like the MLK quote "the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice"

In case you were wondering how JK Rowling's women's rights crusade is going, she's been busy attacking Glasgow Women's Library (the only accredited UK museum dedicated to women's history and a charity that offers literacy and numeracy services for women) for displaying a comic about transphobia written by a lesbian woman 🤡💩
