It turns out I can create unlimited unique email addresses on the email service I host my domain. This means I can create a separate email address for every service I need a login for. So when they get breached, I don't have to worry about my email address being harvested and used for annoying spam signups.

I'll do that over time. Using random names for the name part of the email address.

Can anyone recommend a good (UK) domain name host with email forwarding? I’ve been with 123-reg for years but they just screwed all of their customers with their latest system “update”.

@ianRobinson Thanks will have a look.

    Also now mulling how much intersection of imposter syndrome there is with OCD. (I’ve had that since I was a teen. Under control, mostly. Fairly specific too* and fortunately I don’t have eg the cleaning version. But the more I think about it, the more I suspect certain key anxieties/negative behaviours might stem from that.)

    • mostly the fear of disaster flavour. So I will lock the door, head off and then return to check. And then beat myself up about that. Usually once is enough though.

    @craiggrannell Me too (OCD), it’s exhausting, draining, constant.

    I won £30 on the UK National Lottery. The time between seeing the email to say you’ve won a prize and logging into the website to see if you are a millionaire never gets old!

    Still not a millionaire.

    'Fallout' Renewed for Season 2 at Amazon

    ““Holy shit. Thank you to Jonah, Kilter, Bethesda and Amazon for having the courage to make a show that gravely tackles all of society’s most serious problems these days — cannibalism, incest, jello cake. More to come!,” said Robertson-Dworet and Wagner.”

    I did jinx it. Had an SVT incident at 01:00 as I was attempting to fall asleep. A MVM reduced rate from 123 to 80 but heartbeat felt erratic afterwards. Flutter and missing beats. Apple Watch ECG reported Atrial Fibrillation. Which has never happened before over the 2+ years I’ve been getting SVT attacks. ECG just now also reporting atrial fibrillation.

    I’m having a chill-out day.

    @ianRobinson I have an issue with it reporting a sync failure on my M2 MBA but my M1 Mini doesn’t. Both running same version. Support were unable to offer any solutions other than remove and reinstall (I did, no change).

    My main issue is their business model and pricing. I moved everything off Dropbox and dropped to the free tier for apps that only offer Dropbox syncing.

    Not gonna lie. The early VisionPro reviews have tilted me towards getting one when they release in the UK. Assuming I have the money and the prescription lenses can accommodate my very poor eyesight. The latter will be the biggest obstacle. My left eye is very bad, and has a bit of retina that just doesn’t work. My brain filters it out in the real world, but it might mean the visual stereo 3D in Vision Pro doesn’t work for me.

    tenjinuk,
    @tenjinuk@mastodon.social avatar

    @ianRobinson I have a similar issue in the same eye funnily enough, I wondered the same. It’s a big financial gamble if it doesn’t work.

    I need gift ideas for a 12-year old kid who loves gaming (mostly Nintendo) and coding but who we don’t want to buy more games for.

    We also don’t want/need:

    • any more LED lights
    • bike/skateboard/scooter
    • board games
    • books
    • watches
    • headphones

    Any creative ideas out there?

    I run my own mail server on a Linode VM. Some external mail systems have flagged the external IP on the shared server I’m on as a SPAM source, so won’t allow me to send emails to anyone using that service, or receive email from them. So, I’m losing email.

    Can anyone recommend a hosted email solution (IMAP and SMTP) that a) works without the problem above, and b) I can use with my custom domain?

    I can be pretty foul-mouthed, but I grew up in a conservative Christian family where I felt it wasn't OK to swear. My kids have scarcely, if ever, heard me utter a bad word. The other day I was driving my 11yo and almost got into an accident. He heard me say "Fuuuuuuu" and it rocked his world.

    tenjinuk,
    @tenjinuk@mastodon.social avatar

    @danielpunkass I was driving my then 2 year old once and someone almost drove into us. I instinctively shouted “bugger me!” as I swerved. Then weeks later my wife was in the queue at the Post Office and my son started saying “bugger” over and over again, so she had to leave 😂

    It still irks me that I have to search to see if a film I’m going to see has a post credits scene.

    I’ll outlaw them whim I’m an omnipotent demigod.

    For the record. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes doesn’t have one. Although it’ll probably have an animated Mockingjay graphic like the previous Hunger Games films.

    So nice to be back in sort-of-greenfield PHP!

    Scaffolded two data structures to enhance an existing feature and started the logic too.

    Did about an hour of work before even looking in a browser.

    Most errors were detected by the IDE before I even tested any thing!!!

    I just. Wrote. Code!

    My comfort zone. 😁

    tenjinuk,
    @tenjinuk@mastodon.social avatar

    @ross When I was coding I always found it disconcerting when I did the first build and it worked without any errors, then ran the code for the first time and it worked as expected. To be fair, it was a really rare situation 😂

    I was recommending some streaming shows to someone this week. One of them was Extraordinary on Disney+.

    @ianRobinson Apple Watch 6. No complelling reason to upgrade, was hoping for new sensors, like BP, glucose, etc., BP would have been an instapurchase for me.

    tenjinuk,
    @tenjinuk@mastodon.social avatar

    @ianRobinson I’ll have a look at the Withings. I have a traditional cuff-with-a-cable machine, but it’s a faff to set up and use, I was hoping there would be something that was “always on” and would take readings regularly and without me being aware, rather than have a cuff inflate. My BP is manageable but I often wonder if I am just good at taking readings now, and if it spikes when I am not.
