I've come to regard my gender as one of the least interesting possible things about me (or anyone) and it's such a shame that our entire culture's obsession with it means some of us have to experience a lot of abuse just for having a gender that some folks don't like.

My husband (@dragondaddy here on Masto) works with Azadi #Kenya, a survivor-led NGO that supports survivors of human trafficking.

Many of their members have been hit hard by the flooding in #Nairobi - and are left without housing, food, mattresses, clean water, etc.

It's a measure of the right's success in shifting the Overton window that Johnson will probably survive MTG's motion with the help of Democrat support.

A few years ago he woulda been too extremist to get bipartisan support. Today, he's "the reasonable one" to a congress and electorate exhausted by congressional chaos.

I get the political calculus that puts them there in this moment, but if we feel tempted to crow when MTG loses, remember that this whole show represents a win for the right.

Our differences matter. The places where we could be better matter. But overall if I could make us all better at one thing it would be in recognizing people of good will even when they aren't in the same place as us in their judgements.

  1. Does Hoosier.social federate with Threads?

  2. Does Hoosier.social have any plans for federating with future proprietary services in the Fediverse (like maybe BlueSky someday)?

  3. Do you federate with Mastodon.social? Your “About” page makes me think you might not.

We're not committed to any particular approach on federation. We don't preemptively block, other than the Level 0 blocklist (overt spam and abuse).

Should any particular service or instance become a problem, source of harassment or spam, or harms our users experience, we'll evaluate them on a case by case basis as we would with any other instance.

I'm honestly relieved that the right has largely stopped pretending that their objections to people have anything to do with public policy or safety concerns or anything else and that it really is just that they hate us and don't want to see us anywhere.
