This was three years before grimes left him to date a trans woman, and his own trans daughter severed contact with him over his transphobia. He offered to buy twitter a month after those events.

Twitter didn’t change him, Elon’s LGBTQ pride was only ever makeup that he wore when it served him, just like every other supremacist.

We just watched Mitchells vs the Machines, which if you haven't seen is very enjoyable, but near the end of the movie I made a comment about how the movie had a very similar feel to the Spiderverse films.

Spouse scoffed and said "they're nothing alike!"

I WAS FUCKING RIGHT! ITS THE SAME WRITERS AND PRODUCER

I'm a bit frustrated with Android at the moment, I've spent hours tonight trying to upgrade the Pixelfed app to the latest RN version (and the tons of deps we use)

I'm nearly there, I can feel it... 😅

twipped,
@twipped@twipped.social avatar

@dansup this exact experience is why I haven’t returned to react native. I largely enjoyed the development experience, but dependency updates broke the app every damn time.

Is there a good, well-argued article on why OOP is a good fit for UI code? I've heard this talked about many times, but want to read something meaty from an experienced dev who has seriously considered alternatives to OOP

twipped,
@twipped@twipped.social avatar

@rain @astraluma I would say that React’s switch from class components to functional components is a fairly good case for this. It significantly reduced complexity, thabks to react hooks giving us a better way to manage state

twipped,
@twipped@twipped.social avatar

@nikitonsky honey, if you’re going to reduce a system to the layer it abstracts, then you need to collapse the entire waveform.

So back in August my employer tried to FedEx me a macbook and it vanished -- in that the FedEx tracking page still shows it as "We have your package" at the origin facility (amusingly, it still shows as "on time").

On Friday, it suddenly popped up in my Jamf inventory -- someone wiped it and it automatically enrolled via Apple Business Manager.

So, what is an enterprising Jamf Administrator to do? ...besides the obvious "just lock it".

Wrong answers only.

Our house has a really old pool, like 20+ years old, built from a premade fiberglass form. There’s no bottom drain on the pool, so you have to keep the vacuum robot running all the time.

The pool guy doesn’t know this and keeps changing the pump schedule so the pump only runs for 8 hours. Well, this is what happens when you do that. He’s gonna be in for a surprise today. Enjoy your scrubbing, dude!

I put a sign on the pump to not fuck with it.

Apparently Apple added some hidden feature in macOS Sonoma that makes the music app invisibly lower the volume if the microphone picks up what it thinks is dialog, and nobody can seem to figure out how to turn it off...

Pissing me off, my music suddenly drops out if I cough.

A web designer has talent in visual design and UX, and knows the basics of HTML & CSS. If they were going to learn one thing about JavaScript to help what they do, what would it be?

twipped,
@twipped@twipped.social avatar

@chriscoyier coercion. 90% of people’s problems with JS are because they don’t understand the coercion rules

I am irrationally angry about Helluva Boss fanart that draws Sallie May with female imp horns. The fact that she’s trans is so significant to why her character is awesome, why would you change that?

It feels transphobic, even though I’m sure the artist didn’t mean it to be.

Our local Chik-fil-a just built a roof over their drivethru so that the staff aren’t in the sun and rain. I assume they’re gonna put solar on it, as well.

CFA’s owners are scum of the earth, but wow is this company intelligently run, every drivethru should do this. It probably pays for itself in the first year.

The amount of Mastodon forks that mostly just change the UI, and the amount of UI bullshit Gargron creates, increasingly make me think that what's needed is to separate UI and AP more.

Adopt an API (ideally: not the Mastodon API, realistically: probably the Mastodon API) that as many projects as possible agree on and build separate projects, for handling ActivityPub and for handling web UI.

A lot of users never see Mastodon's web UI anyway, they use mobile clients, many of them third-party clients. The next logical step is to decouple UI and core development entirely.

”But Mastodon also has [...] a lot on its plate including integration with Threads“

It's lines like this that makes me completely unable to take those calling for a hard fork of Mastodon seriously.

All Mastodon do for Threads is the same they for any fediverse developer having issues federating with them. (And there's certainly limits to that)

Along with perhaps writing more FEPs to standardize behaviour, which benefits everyone

twipped,
@twipped@twipped.social avatar

@thisismissem mmm, I think they’re talking about the inevitable scaling needs that come with handling all that federation traffic
