Still struggling today, but hey, look at how happy my plants are. Aren't they total beauties?

The aloe flowers a second time this year (I missed the peak of the flower last time but collected the seeds that I'll try to plant in fall, when the worst of the work travel is over.)

Here are the much anticipated 10 images taken by the Euclid "Dark Matter Hunter" space telescope.

The images and accompanying papers were presented today at a gathering by the Euclid Consortium. We have seen the first image before.

These are part of the Euclid Early Release Observation program. The first results from Euclid’s wide and deep main surveys will take until fall, first cosmology papers at least until late 2025.

Ugh, visas are so much fun. So a colleague was supposed to support me at the IAU in South Africa.

But they are from a country requiring a visa. Fine. Only for the visa you need a stamped bank statement. The consulate does not accept a digital signature. And the Dutch bank - the colleague lives in the Netherlands - does not give out physical stamps only digital signatures. So their visa got rejected.

And now I'm stuck without support.

@can here their explanation: https://www.sanquin.nl/over-bloed/eiwitten/ferritine - at the bottom under "Moet ik ijzertabletten gebruiken om mijn ferritinegehalte te verhogen?" - they are pretty much saying that this is something the GP should prescribe because they could have side effects and they would usually only prescribe this if also the Hb is low or you actually have symptoms of low iron levels.

In general, the Dutch is a lot less likely to prescribe anything compared to Germany :D

@can you are welcome! Don't necessary assume that they are correct - Dutch doctors will also famously send you home with paracetamol when they should not (the Germans on the other hand prescribe antibiotics for colds ...), so who knows which side is correct.

@venite would you (or anyone reading his) know if he there somewhere a list or something about local farmers, especially organic ones, having stores? (I can't do a package, I'm travelling far too much, but I'm glad to bike places to buy produce ... But I find it hard to find places. And then to judge them.)

Mit 528 erfassten Fällen von gab es in im vergangenen Jahr im Schnitt täglich mehr als einen antisemitischen Vorfall, wie aus dem Jahresbericht der Hessen hervorgeht.

Die meisten Meldungen von Antisemitismus im vergangenen Jahr habe es in (224), (45), und (jeweils 38) gegeben.

@yaenntz mensch muss das vor allem in Bezug auf die Gesamtanzahl der Jud*innen setzen. Es sind was, 11000 Menschen in den Gemeinden? Selbst wenn nicht alle Mitglied der Gemeinden sind, sind die Zahlen in Relation noch mal erschreckend. Und dann die Dunkelzahlen...

I haven't read this particular novel of hers (but I bought it as a present for my partner and now asked him to bring it to NL so I can do so on our upcoming vacation 😅), but her "Visitation" and "The End of Days" are books I keep recommending. I've also heard the translations are amazing!

(Yes, I'm distracting myself but Erpenbeck is seriously an absolutely stand out writer!)

Have found out today that (not very close) relatives (and their kids - and the kids they took care of at that moment, they run a childcare thing) in Canada have been victims of a hate crime (a while ago, it took a while to reach me), prompting them to give up on the childcare business thing.

I just feel freaking empty.

@sinnundverstand @fedibikes_de Wenn ihr ein bisschen Zeit habt (und die Gegend nicht eh schon kennt), würde ich noch die Dünen zwischen Vlissingen und Zoutelande mitnehmen, weil der Weg sonst gar nicht durch die Dünen führt. Radweg selbst ist solala, weil hinter den Dünen, aber draufsteigen und spazieren gehen ist traumhaft.
