Here's your useless fact of the day: clipper guards (the things that snap onto a taper clipper to adjust for the desired hair length while trimming) are numbered according to typical hair growth per week. If you get buzzed with a No. 1 guard, 3 weeks later you'll be at the length of a No. 4.

My kids' basketball coach periodically reminds parents that they (the parents) are in the stands to cheer on the whole team, not to shout unqualified and confusing instructions to individual players. And also that the players are under 10, so spectators are advised to chill.

She's brilliant.

The sprung wooden clothes peg is an amazing feat of engineering: a solid improvement over its predecessor (the dolly peg), extremely practical, industrial mass production capable, sustainable, biodegradable, UV-stable, with a useful life measured in decades.

Almost all those advantages go out the window if we make the damn things out of plastic.

Perfect jacket potatoes:

Use 4 large potatoes.
Rub dirt off under running water.
Do not peel, but do stab each potato 4-5 times with a fork.
Pop in pre-heated oven, 230°C.
Melt 100g butter on low heat.
Add 2 teaspoons salt to molten butter, mix thoroughly.
Take potatoes out of oven after 20 minutes, chuck in bowl, pour butter-salt mix over, toss vigorously to cover spuds from all sides.
Return to oven at 120°C.
Cook for 60 minutes.

Scale up for larger amount as needed.

Serious question: why is it that so many people apparently have real problems adopting ISO 8601 dates and UTC, in a professional context?

As in, are those somehow fundamentally incompatible with human nature? Or do people just completely lack the cultural awareness to understand that some of their colleagues are used to a different date format than they are, or live in a different timezone, or don't use daylight saving time?

In Österreich schreibt man im Vorfeld der Matura (in Deutschland: Abitur) eine "vorwissenschaftliche Arbeit" oder VWA. Die wird einem Plagiatsscan unterzogen. Der taugt jetzt nicht mehr, weil er ChatGPT-erschwurbelte Arbeiten nicht als Plagiat "erkennen" kann. Die Lehrergewerkschaft will daher jetzt die VWA abschaffen; 81% der in einer Umfrage befragten Lehrkräfte sind dafür.

Man wird der Fazialpalmierungen langsam müde.

Mal in die -Runde gefragt: was verwendet ihr denn so für Bratpfannen? Ich bin in den letzten Jahren von Teflon abgekommen und bevorzuge eher Keramik-Antihaft (meist von WMF). Ich hab auch gusseiserne Pfannen, die ich regelmäßig mit Leinöl einbrenne, aber für den tagtäglichen Gebrauch ist eine mit Antihaftbeschichtung einfach bequemer.

Aber ich lass mich gern auch von anderen Standpunkten überzeugen. Retröts und Kommentare gerne erbeten.

One of the flaws of democracy is that there is no way to exclude people from decisions whose consequences won't affect them, if they lack the decency to act on the behalf of those whom those decisions will affect.

No person over 70 has any business acting against the interest of a 20-year-old, when it comes to mitigating climate disaster.
