I write some code, and get paid both to break and fix things.

Saying I’m a CTO of a startup primarily focused on EdTech sounds so pretentious.

It is RAINING outside and I am listening to the black metal band EMPEROR and I am feeling extremely FOURTEEN YEARS OLD

zei,

@mcc have you heard the self titled Ihsahn solo album from earlier in the year?

I am kind of obsessed by it still on and off x)

OK, so you know the so-called "source code leak" from Rabbit for the last week? It wasn't a real leak, but what it showed was different than what I was expecting. So Rabbit Hole, the way you configure your R1 -- it only works on desktops, which I thought was rather odd. And then I went to manage my connection and I figured out why. This whole thing is a fucking VNC session in the web browser served as if it is a modal login

zei,

@film_girl just casually type your password for other services into a (virtual) cloud computer Rabbit controls… yeah… not so sure about that being a good idea.

People defending owners of old gaming IP all day long. Look, I get it. And is often iffy. But imagine if other mediums were like gaming. 99% of music and film inaccessible unless you owned original hardware and original media, slowly degrading and liable to die at any moment. It’s insane that gaming is in the place it is. I’d long hoped for an ‘iTunes for MAME’ years ago, but no. The closest we’ve got to something remotely sensible is ‘Netflix for ’ Antstream Arcade.

zei,

@craiggrannell it’s actually very impressive how successful emulation has been in preserving game history.

Today in 2024 it’s actually basically easier to play NES games from the 80s than it is to play some games from the mid 90s that have basically been abandoned by their original publishers.

Online media can be overwhelming. It's fragmented between countless services, websites, social networks, and apps.

You need an app that weaves together an overview of nearly everything that’s happening across all the different services you follow.

That’s our vision for Project Tapestry, the new Kickstarter we're launching today.

zei,

@Iconfactory this looks really nice and I have huge faith in that you guys will deliver a great product. I’m 100% in.

you ever look at a university hostname in a url and think “I don’t recognize it but I am 100% confident that is the name of an especially obscure elf from the Silmarillion as picked by the IT intern in 1992”

zei,

@0xabad1dea one of my professors named servers after bots in Quake 3.

I remember interacting with Wrack and Klesk quite a lot.

I tried to log into my personal google account in a private browser window on my work computer and google found this so suspicious that after I entered the challenge code it sent to that account’s recovery address, it then demanded that I go get my ipad and open the youtube app to enter another challenge code

like, it specifically told me which other device to go get (and I guess if I didn’t have my ipad with me, then I just couldn’t log in?)

zei,

@0xabad1dea I get this too regularly where it asks me to confirm on the YouTube app on my phone.

The weirdest one though is that it does it for my work Google account as well sometimes… even though that isn’t even signed in to the YouTube app… and somehow it still works.

I was today years old when I learned that 80s "how can we sleep when our beds our burning" song is a Land Back anthem

zei,

@mcc I definitely recommend this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jucengVNyDk

The story of Midnight Oil and their singer Peter Garrett is pretty fascinating
