JoFloHK,

One of the problems with my brain is that it files any planning under "task accomplished"

So I can't really make a proper plan with bullet points, deadlines, roles and responsibilities because when I do that my brain goes "Right, this is done, time to move on to the next thing" and immediately loses all motivation to do whatever I've just planned

Please someone tell me how to undo this brain pathway or I'll have to improvise everything I'll ever do in my life until the day I die

Itty53,

@JoFloHK

This is largely the same problem of "oh shit I forgot to bring X. I even put X right where I'd see it so I don't forget". That's you telling your brain, "problem solved, no longer need to remember". Happens to me all the time, probably not abnormal.

Something that works for me is to make a list item and then immediately do it. Cross it off. Seems pointless right? But what happens is I'll get interrupted and forget to finish it. It's still on the list though.

JoFloHK,

@Itty53 good tip but it doesn't always work, some projects have a deadline several months away. I always end up chaotically working through the required tasks in a very inefficient way, and then putting most of the work in during the last 2 weeks/10 days while surviving on stress hormones and frequent crying fits

Itty53,

@JoFloHK

Oh for long tasks, yeah that doesn't apply at all. That's more like a tip for a daily list. I admit I rely entirely too much on Jira and project managers for long term jobs. Probably something I could stand to work on.

JoFloHK,

@Itty53 what's Jira?

Itty53,

@JoFloHK

Project management software a lot of development houses use. Meant for coordination between people, not personal tracking really. Though I guess you could.

Still, not recommending that, that's like recommending you buy Photoshop for adding macro text to a jpeg.

But maybe rather than a list, you might look for some light project management software? Could be useful.

JoFloHK,

@Itty53 I use Trello and Monday dot com for work, but what I really need is something that sends me reminders for each task - and if those 2 have this option, I couldn't find where it is

Itty53,

@JoFloHK

I'm not greatly familiar with either but both seem to have the capability. I'd first try getting that out of the apps you already use instead of adding another to the pile.

Trello has Due Date Reminders, seems to be what you're after:
https://support.atlassian.com/trello/docs/mobile-due-date-reminders/

With Monday.com it looks like you can set up automations that include notifications:
https://support.monday.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002725619-How-to-create-alert-reminders

May also be that, if it's a work app or a free version, you don't have all the features available.

@JoFloHK Can we switch half and half and you can have the anxiety that sits in my brain until something is completed? Maybe between the two of us we can make something beautiful lol

JoFloHK,

@RickiTarr I'm afraid I can't because that anxiety still lives in one far, dark, dusty corner of my brain the whole time.
Lurking. Waiting for the 10 days prior to the deadline, when all the work the plan had spread across several months needs to be done with immediacy and cortisol
